Purchasing dress online

Tina, on September 16, 2019 at 7:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hi ladies, did you buy your wedding dresses online? What are the biggest pros and cons from buying online?

I am considering buying a dress online, from websites like stillwhite, because of budget I can get my dream dress without spending a ton. But I am concerned about fitting. What if I don’t like it after I put it on. Unsure if there is any site that has return policies.

I am speaking from my experience. I got mine from stillwhite. Very cheap. Its new with tags. I had tried on my dress before i ordered it, so i knew how i would look like. I say you do the same. The cons i would say is if the measurement are off, it could fit a little tight but you can fix that. Also i have ordered many things overseas, never had any issues. Well the seller ended up using fedex (which goes through customs). It got held up, i kept contacting the girl many times and she acted like she didnt care or knew how big of a deal it was. I even mentioned fedex was looking for her. Nothing. It got shipped back to her and that's when she finally realized how big of a deal it was. Believe me i was so mad at her. I even contacted stillwhite but their good at protecting their buyer. I finally got my dress after a month. My advice is either get it in your country or make sure the seller uses usps. I still saved money but the frustration was a lot for me to handle. Hopefully you don't have such a hard time like i did. Hope this helps.

David’s Bridal, Lulus and BHLDN all have online dresses and have good return policies.

I would try on dresses to get a rough idea of what your body type is and what works best for you. I was going to order through a company called Anomalie and couldn’t bring myself to buy a dress I hadn’t tried on before, or spend 1100 on said dress. Went down to David’s Bridal and found the one for 594 (it was on sale, only 50 dollars off though). I went with that because I knew it was the one, but I would definitely recommend trying in dresses before ordering online!

I purchased my dress online from Lulus, it’s not my dream dress however it’s beautiful and i love it. It fits perfect and they offered exchanges/returns incase i didn’t like it. I would recommend going with a store that offers exchange/return if you do it online bc that’s a huge risk.

I got both my ceremony and reception gowns from stillwhite.com and could not be more in love with them. I kind of pestered the sellers and asked for ALOT of pictures and information, but it was worth it because both of my gowns are in pristine condition and fit wonderfully. I would say make sure the dress has not been altered and take shipping into consideration. The only con (in my opinion) would be not having that “say yes to the dress” experience in the salon but I was not willing to pay 2-3 thousand for one dress... and I ended up with TWO designer dream dresses for less than 1K so I’m ecstatic about my decision to buy online!!

I'm thinking about buying my dress online as well!! I just totally fell in love with it!! It's on Dorris's Wedding Dresses.com, they actually custom make each dress to order so you send in your exact measurements and it's made to fit you perfectly so you don't have to spend money on alterations but because of this they won't except returns. That's why I plan on trying on dresses at bridal shops to make sure that is the type and style I want. I mean, I don't even know what a wedding dress looks like on me, so Im definitely planning on checking out in store dresses first!! I would definitely recommend you do the same. Then, if you still love the online dress, go for it!! But at least you will have an idea of what the dress will look like on you!! I'm sure whatever you choose will look amazing in you!! Good luck!!

I am sorry to hear all the trouble you have to go through. I hope the dress turned out to be a stun! Hindsight, would you have done this online or will you recommend to get it from a local bridal salon to avoid the shipping hassle?

I'm ordering mine with custom sizing from Azazie. They have a great sample try on program and the dresses I tried on felt great. Custom sized there's no return policy but standard sizes do have a return policy. I'd recommend looking up lots of reviews, good and bad, of your chosen website. I had a friend that ordered online and had to buy a dress last minute from David's Bridal because the sizing was way off. When I ordered the sample from Azazie the sizing was spot on(only reason I'm going custom is my waist is a size bigger than my other measurements and I am VERY short). YMMV. Including a pic of the dress I'm ordering.

I think about this a lot. Something i don't tell people because i do feel ashamed and stupid in a way. Since the dress got reshipped to me, i had to pay for her to send it back, Stillwhite emailed me to notify me i would have to do that. Supposedly she is going to try to refund me the money (because she asked for the 4 day guaranteed,) I still question why i just didn't tell her to pay and she could keep the money refund to me. She would tell me "i'm in the post office, this is the price, now pay me." When i would think about what to do she would say "hurry up cause i got things to do." Also you have to pay all the fees and cost that come with paypal. So it can come out to more. Without getting the refund, i am saving about 300. So i'm seeing the positive. I really do hope i get that money back (its been over a month.) But in a way i would have preferred to get it at the boutique. This way i could've made payments. But if it was a shipper from my county, maybe i would have and if it was way cheaper. i couldn't find that dress cheap in the USA. I am pretty disappointing with the site in a way and a little mad at myself. But i do love my dress. Its my dream dress and all the frustration was in a way worth it. But if you have anymore questions, let me know.

I purchased my dress from cocomelody.com. Amazing customer service, quality, and fit. Pretty much everything was perfect. I did go to a few salons beforehand to find out what style I liked. Also if you’re worried about the sizing, you can always add in a corset back which will give you a little wiggle room in the dress size.
