Punta Cana Seaweed

Lacey, on February 6, 2020 at 9:45 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 4

Hello everyone! My FH and I are looking at going to Secrets Cap Cana in Punta Cana for our Honeymoon May 10th- the 16th. We fell in love with this resort and the amazing beach but after researching it I have discovered that this area has a horrible problem with tons of seaweed coming in, so much that you cant even see the water. Ive read that it gets this bad in June but people that have went there in April said the beach was seaweed free. So I am just very scared to go right in between those times and us spend all that money and not even be able to get in the water. So if there is anyone that has went during May please reach out and tell me about your expereience. Thank you!

Your best bet is to contact the resort to see when the best time to go is. It's for sure a gamble, but they will be able to give you the best information.

Most of the Carribean has been having a bad seaweed issue. It used to be just a seasonal thing, but now it's an all year thing in most places. It's even a problem in Florida (I was in Miami and May and there was tons of it). Playa Mujeres in Mexico is pretty good because Isla de Mujeres kind of blocks the seaweed from getting there. The ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao) seem to be out of the way. I've read it's an issue in Jamaica.

A lot of resorts have put in barriers to keep the seaweed from coming onto their beaches. Check and see if they offer that!
