So Fh and I have been talking a lot about our honeymoon and to our surprise the Caribbean is more affordable than we ever thought. So I started researching some places and by my research, Budget, travel included as well as being all inclusive I found I like Punta Cana and Riviera Maya the most. We first thought of Jamaica but it just didn't appeal to us beach wise like the other two locations. And most were still out of budget.

So, I need help deciding on which one to go to. I have found a few resorts I like in our price range like the Riu Palace, Paradisus Playa, Majestic Elegance. Although, we would prefer adult only resorts which some of those are. We are looking for a place that has a good nightlife. We don't want to just be laying by the pool or beach the whole time. But can't afford to do excursions really so looking for a place that has lots to do. What do you suggest?

Punta Cana is fabulous..I am there 3 months out of the year. But be very careful where you stay because it can make all the difference. The best deal doesn't mean the best experience. I have seen 1 Groupon deal in the DR that I feel was worth it. Many of the properties are older and if they haven't maintained the property since opening you are in for a surprise. Where are you going in Punta Cana?

Also remember when doing groupon they don't usually include your transportation to and from the hotel that's an added expenses that you might not think of. Some places are not close to the airport I have found at the DR so that cost can add up too.

I personally don't use groupon for a trip like this only because I haven't heard enough good things about it and if I did I would have to research the hotel and see the terms and conditions. Some deals don't honor that what they sell you is what you get. I have learned at least.

I live in Dallas, Texas and I have been to Punta Cana and stayed at the Barcelo Palace in the club level for a week. The hotel was gorgeous but huge. It was very safe. They had security guards on the beach at the end of the property to make sure that you had a wristband to be on the property. The flight was a long day though. I don't know if they have direct flights from Dallas because when I was booking a flight all I found was flights with a layover in Florida. We flew American.

The beaches are nice and the water is calm, but I have been to many other beaches that I thought were better. I loved Costa Rica and he islands of Culebra and Vieques off the coast of Puerto Rico were nicer. I have been to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Matzelan in Mexico as well and Playa is very nice. We actually decided to get married in Riviera Maya/Playa this November. I am looking into the RIU Palace Riviera Maya and have spoken with travel agents about it and it is reasonably priced but seems very nice. We also wanted a fun atmosphere where we could do a variety of things. Tulum is very close to Playa and the ruins and the beach is gorgeous. Xcaret and Xe-Hal are cool excursions as well. Your hotel can usually help you schedule the excursions.

If you decide to go with Riviera Maya and/or the RIU Palace please connect with me.

    Thanks, Veronica
