Punk/Pop first dance songs

Melissa, on August 6, 2015 at 2:04 PM

Growing up I was really into Something Corporate, the Starting Line, New Found Glory, etc. Can anyone think of a song by these bands or similar ones that would make a good first dance song?

Can't talk, busy listening to all these songs on Youtube...

Do you like Neutral Milk Hotel? Not really punk but some great alternative love songs.

I'm dying at the idea of Bedroom Talk. Absolutely dying.

I mean, they DID just get married...

Oh, and The Format's On Your Porch. I don't know why I didn't think of that yet for my own. Looks like I'll be suggesting that to FH tonight.

    "Falling for You" Weezer

    "Oh, It is Love" Hellogoodbye

M- Right? I'd love for my parents to see my dance with my new husband to, "I'm gonna tear your ass up like we just got married."

Our first dance is an Arctic Monkeys song. "Baby, I'm Yours." Not exactly the 2005 pop punk era, but I was into them at around the same time. Another suggestion!

I'm not sure how danceable it is, but I love 'Nothing with you' from the Descendents. I think it's a great love song

Plain White T's will probably have some good stuff. 1,2,3,4 is very cute.

Love it! I love punky/rock style songs! Our song is all around me by flyleaf....well, rock alternative? Idk how you'd categorize them but love the song as it's exactly how I feel about my man!

You can always go Weezer. Not exactly pop punk but fits that idea pretty well.

DH and I did Weezer/Haley Williams (from Paramore) cover of Rainbow Connection.

We also did Me First and the Gimme Gimme's cover of Hava Nagila for the Horah.

In fact, Me First and the Gimme Gimme's is a good option for a lot of songs.

Also check out Stretlight Manifesto's cover of Such Great Heights on the album "99 songs of the Revolution, Vol. 1"

My current top contenders for pop/punk:

Mayday Parade - Happy Endings are Stories that Haven't Ended Yet (I love this song. It has that hint of grand, almost arthurian love story that may end in a glorious happy ending or a bittersweet tragedy. Ugh, such a sucker for Arthurian legends. Ahem, anyway...)

New Found Glory - Glory of Love

    Also considering:

Mayday Parade - You Be The Anchor That Keeps My Feet On The Ground, I'll Be The Wings That Keep Your Heart In The Clouds

Asteria - Just Enough to Make It

    New Found Glory - Oxygen

Finch - What it is to Burn

We aren't having traditional songs for our 'important ' moments. I'm walking down the aisle to 30STM - closer to the edge, played on piano

'Our song' is Good Charlotte - Alive, but not really dancable for first dance.... So possibly we will have Theory of a Deadman, easy to love you

Spotify is your friend.... Lots of unusual versions of all stuff, including some instrumental so no one is shocked by the actual lyrics!
