Publix Florals and Cake

Elizabeth, on June 23, 2020 at 7:00 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 20
I am planning a destination wedding from afar so I don't have the luxury of visiting the Publix local to my venue. Looking online, I see that Publix offers floral bouquets and gorgeous custom wedding cakes. We will be flying down to FL the the morning before our wedding which will be on a Saturday at 6pm. I figured we could rent a car and pick up the cake and flowers Friday night and store them in our full sized fridge in our suite or have someone pick them up the day of. Either way, I'll have to call the Publix for more info to see if this will work for us.

Has anyone used Publix for flowers and cake and can share your experience or give me an idea on cost? I'll be needing 4 bouquets, 4 boutenneires, and a cake that serves about 50-60 guests. The cakes I saw online are gorgeous. We're not really flower and cake people so most of our budget went to photography, DJ, and reception food and drinks lol.

Never used Publix for flowers (other than purchasing pre-cut) - but their cakes are amazing.

Where in FL are you you having your wedding; some of us on here may be able to help you out.

I don't have Publix where I live so that's good to hear! Our wedding will be in Kissimmee, FL next May.

Have you posted in the FL page? To get advice on Florists and Bakers? Although, Publix is definitely not a bad choice by any means. I lived in Ft Myers and now in NC - Publix is our staple. The cakes are to die for. So, I'm not much help in the Kissimmee area.

We're having our destination wedding in the Keys and we flew down back in March to meet with florists / bakers / photographers and to see our venue in person. We emailed a florist in the area and basically told them - Hey, we just want 1 bouquet (for me) doesn't have to be big, just something that reminds you of a sunrise (we're having a sunrise wedding) - And, I'm leaving it all in their hands, will pick up the bouquet the day before. LOL...

I’ve heard good things from friends about the flowers and cake. I haven’t used them for that but they catered my rehearsal dinner and I was very pleased.

I live in Orlando (near Kissimmee) and while I have never used them for a wedding, I can tell you that we Floridians live and die by Publix. For example, if there is a getting cake at any occasion, we’ll ask if it’s a Publix cake (it’s THAT important). Also, i’ve never seen a bouquet from their but their precut bouquets are generally beautiful and guaranteed to last for 7 days. I’m getting married in New Orleans, and I was disappointed to learn they do not have Publix because they would have been my go-to for my cake and flowers.

Hi, I’m from FL right around Kissimmee. I think a better option for your florals would be a local Whole Foods! As long as you buy the flowers you want from the store the florist will arrange them for you for free. I’ve seen the florist do amazing work from Whole Foods. As far as the cake goes Publix is perfect! We’re doing a sheet cake from Publix for our guests since we just want a cutting cake and dessert bar.

    Congratulations!

We're having a Publix cake! Their cakes are amazing, and we knew from the start we wanted that.

We are getting our flowers from Trader Joe's. Not sure if you've ever shopped there but their florals are beautiful! We have to assemble the bouquets ourselves, but since it's just bouquets I figured that would be fine.

We had a Publix cake! We actually weren’t going to have a cake at all, but at the last minute we decided to order from Publix, and I’m glad we did. We ordered two small cakes (shown in the pic) plus a larger sheet cake that the caterer cut. It was only about $260 for all 3 cakes. Our planner added the florals from a wholesaler to the top of the cakes. Our guests loved it!Publix Florals and Cake 1

Forgot to add: Publix delivered the cakes the morning of, so we didn’t have to worry about picking them up.

Hi Margaret! I hadn't thought of posting in the FL forum but I should've lol. That's a good idea. 😉 For our original wedding date that was supposed to be last month until Covid happened, that's exactly what I did for the flowers. I know nothing about flowers lol. We weren't going to have a reception, so I was keeping the flowers simple. Only bouquets and boutenneires, none for the ceremony because it was going to be outside overlooking water on the sand (fake "beach" on the resort lol). It still ended up being about $500. I'm hoping to cut the cost down with Publix or Whole Foods as someone suggested below.

For the cake, we were going to do a simple sheet cake that my future FIL was going to drive up from Miami where he lives. Now that we have decided on a reception this time around with dinner, DJ, etc., I feel like our cake should be a little nicer plus I don't want to worry about it getting damaged in transport.

Hi Sharonda, I never knew Publix was such a thing! I've been in one a couple times while on vacation in FL and had the best strawberries and grapes from there. That's what I remember lol. Definitely doesn't compare to the fruit where I live in VA! I'm so excited to hear their cakes are good!

I was considering picking up a few pre cut bouquets the night before the wedding (that's when I fly into town) and put together simple bouquets and boutenneires for the wedding party. That could go awesome or be stressful. I'd need to do a couple practice runs first lol.

Hi Brittany! Ohhh I haven't thought of Whole Foods for florals. How does it work there? Do you pre order the flowers and tell them how you want it arranged or do you select from what's there? I'm trying to figure out how I coordinate that without being there in person. I can call or stop by a local WF near me to find out though.

Tell me more about your dessert bar! I like the idea of a small cutting cake and sheet cake for the guests. Are you going to display the sheet cake? What other desserts are you offering? A dessert bar sounds fun but my resort doesn't do setup without an extra fee so I'd have to keep that in mind.

Hi! I'm very familiar with Trader Joe's and I agree, their flowers are gorgeous and I'm not opposed to making our bouquets so that would be a good option too. It's so funny that I now make it a point to stop by the floral department every time i go to the grocery store to check out the selection to try to picture which precut bouquets would work for a wedding lol.

Definitely going with Publix for cake thanks to all the positive feedback!

Hi Ti! Thanks for posting a pick! Omg that's gorgeous and a great price! Can I ask how many guests the 3 cakes served and how much the delivery was?

So our venue is all inclusive and they gave us two options one was so get a traditional wedding cake and the other was to do a two tier cutting cake which will be displayed at the dessert bar. We were thinking brownies, chocolate covered strawberries, cookies and maybe something else. And then the sheet cake will be in the back and brought to guests after we cut our cake. I’m personally not a fan of cake so I think that would be our best option.

Also at Wholefoods you can call ahead and see what flowers are in season and see if they’ll pre-make them for you and when you get there you just pay for the price of the flowers. I would call ahead since there may not always be a florist there.

The sheet cake alone served about 100 people. Then the other two served about 30-35 I believe. We had 115 guests and a ton of cake left over. I think delivery was about $30? Can’t remember exactly, but it was included in the $265! Again, we ordered literally a week before our wedding, haha. Everything was easy and taken care of. Best of luck and congrats on your upcoming wedding!

We opted to do a small 6" cake for cutting purposes only and are doing "mini" cupcakes in two flavors - if that idea helps at all, Cost was about 50% less than normal.

Flowers - It's been forever since I was in Kissimee, but definitely look up the Flea Markets and such and see if there is a flower vendor of sorts. I only say this because here in NC, we have Vietnamese florists set up booths and sell bouquets (often custom) for anywhere from $5 - $25 (pending size). Sorry, I just remembered this when you were mentioning your flowers.

Hope that helps some more. Good luck!
