PSA to those staying at an Excellence Resort for your Honeymoon

MrsDean, on February 9, 2015 at 9:38 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14

I got this email notification from the resort yesterday:

Dear guest, by this notice we notify you about a change in our booking collection policy, applicable as of February 15, 2015. From that date our billing department will charge your credit card 30 days prior to the check in date instead of the 4 days considered by our previous policy.

Due to the above if your check-in date is on February 15th, 2015 or later, your reservation will be subject to the new policy and therefore the full amount of stay will be charged to your card 30 days in advance.

Should you not be in agreement with the new policy and would like to modify or cancel your reservation, you may do so without any penalty within 7 calendar days of the date hereof.

All reservations with check in 03/15/2015 or sooner will be charged on 02/15/2015

This really sucks! One of the reasons we liked Excellence is because we wouldn't be charged until after the wedding so we'd have more flexibility with paying things off before the wedding. Now we have to pay the full amount of our honeymoon hotel stay 30 days prior to the wedding. We have the money, if we didn't we'd be majorly screwed. As I said, this really sucks!

That's not cool, they should grandfather in everyone who is already booked. Not cool at all. Thank goodness you have the money!

I know. I was shocked when I read the email. How does a 4 day policy turn into a 30 day policy just like that?

That's crazy. They should only apply the new policy to people who actually books their stay after the 2/15/2015, anyone who booked before that date should be grandfathered in. That's bad business.

Glad you have the funds, and hopefully most people could put it on a credit card and the statement date wouldn't cause too many problems, but that's still really really annoying that they're changing their policy and not grand-fathering you guys in.

@FutureMrsDean I just got that email this morning too. We booked our honeymoon with Excellence last Thursday and I was SOOOOO excited about not having to pay for this until September. I can't believe they can just change the policy like that... They can basically say: here is what we are doing for our benefit and if you don't like it then you are always free to cancel..... it just sucks.

AlliMar, I snorted at the option to "modify or cancel" the reservation too. I thought Secrets Resort's payment policy of 2 weeks before check was bad. But a whole month? This is definitely bad business.

Ugh that sucks that they just changed it Smiley sad

Sandals payment deadline is a good bit before. I have to be fully paid by Feb 19 for check in day of April 13. More than a month, almost 2 !

Hi ladies from Kelly Burnett, owner of Travel by Kelly. Sorry to hear you got caught up in a resort policy change. I have seen this happen before in the industry. Most tour operators that book packages have a final payment policy of 45 days prior to arrival, they all differ and then of course the resorts themselves have their policies. I do agree it's not right to do this to you. I had this happen to a client and I was able to call and explain the situation and they altered it for my client. You could try talking with them to see if anything could be done if it's not possible to pay it, you never know, just a thought, it's worked before and they may not want to loose your business. Good luck with everything , you can try calling USA: 866.540.2585

I don't understand why the change can't only apply to bookings post February 15th. That stinks!

Our honeymoon is booked at Excellence Playa Mujeres, and I have not received anything from them with this new policy. I would call the resort and make sure this is legit and then ask if they can do anything for you to make up for the inconvenience Smiley smile

    Thanks, Kelly.

Danielle, that's a good idea to call to see if they can do anything for the inconvenience. An upgraded room would be sweet!

So sorry to hear this, FMD! As you might remember, we are also staying at an Excellence resort, in fact I think I recommended it to you. We have paid ours off already so it shouldn't cause a problem, but I hope you are still looking forward to your sunny honeymoon!
