PSA: The Knot probably stalked your registry

Holly, on February 1, 2016 at 10:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

If you have ever made an account at the Knot, it has probably scoured the web to look for your registries even if you never connected them to the Knot. I know there was a post about this recently but I found out how to disable it:

See if yours are public here: https://www.theknot.com/registry

If so, click "display settings" (this might be a direct link: https://www.theknot.com/registry#display-settings) and uncheck the boxes next to the registries you don't want to be listed for anyone on google to find.

I would suggest doing this instead of clicking the remove link, because the previous poster said they came back when she deleted them.

Somehow when I saw the post about it a few weeks ago I thought that I had already done away with it. Tonight I just tried to google our names registry and whelp everything was public, even though we haven't finalized it and I've essentially been using our Amazon one as my wedding shopping list :-P Luckily no one tried to buy anything yet!

Do you know how to delete a wedding website with them? I can't figure it out!

@futuremrsc you have to email them. I did it awhile ago and that is the only way.

This actually came up like a month ago. Almost everyone will have a registry with them even if you did not create one with them.

@OriginalLaura thank you! I just emailed them. It's so creepy how they have our registry information on their site.

I keep seeing these posts here too, but I still don't understand the big deal. I find it actually kind of convenient that people can google and find my registries in one place. What's the flip side I'm not seeing? If it has anything to do with privacy, those stores you (general "you") registered with had fine print letting you know they share info with third parties, such as the knot. Not trying to be snarky. Just wondering if I'm missing something.

@sprezz what you are saying does make sense but they don't even have the correct registries for me. We didn't register at Best Buy but it's listed on there somehow and we registered at Kohl's but that isn't listed. So I think it's not totally accurate which does a disservice to guests.

@sprezz, I was annoyed about it because I was applying to jobs and grad school shortly after my wedding, and my registries were like #1-3 of the things that would come up when you googled my name. I just felt weird about future employers seeing that instead of my LinkedIn profile.

Sprezz, the reason why I don't like it is because we just have randomly started adding things, but haven't gone through to remove duplicates etc. until we have time to sit down and look at the different places and see which are the best deals and such. So we're not ready for them to be public and don't want people to find them yet.

Future Mrs. C, it's not the same as deleting, but you can go to settings at the bottom left of this page: https://www.theknot.com/gs/dashboard

and uncheck it from being searchable and make it so you need a PIN to view. Then no one would be able to find it or see it even if they did see it.

Mine is at the right store, but it's super out of date. Some stuff hasn't been available for months, and some things we decided not to get.

I just looked and they have a registry for us that we also never made! But I cannot find any place to "uncheck" the registries that are displayed.

I am having this same issue. There is a Knot Registry under our name that we did not create and I want it down. We are married now and I cannot access it because we never created it. How do I take this off of the google search?
