PSA: Please don't shoot guns during your ceremony!

2d Bride, on July 20, 2015 at 3:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I can't believe this is really a thing!

Of course, even without the huge safety issues, I'm wondering how it is a symbol of "unity" to have the bride and groom shooting guns. But in any event, you really don't want to be killing some innocent third party at your own wedding.

I can't believe you have to write a PSA for this...why would someone think this is cool to do? Just crazy!

I'm sure they're blanks but that sure would be odd to see at a wedding

I think it is tough to judge when we don't know the situation, What safety measures they took for example.

I don't see why anyone would want to do this. It's extremely dangerous.

Gross. Really. And with all the gun violence we've experienced lately, why would anyone think this is a cute idea, blanks or no?

Hahaha one of my Facebook friends got married this past weekend and she shared this with the caption "I wish we had done this!"

    Oh, small town Texas.

This is a matter of personal opinion. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. But I'm not anti-guns and my FH is an avid, responsible hunter and he would love for us to do this, if it were allowed. While many of you will disagree with me, there are many brides on here who hunt and shoot with their FHs that I think would agree with me. No one is going to get killed at a wedding where the bride and groom, who are responsible and know how to shoot. I mean....they were shooting at the sky, not the audience.

Even shooting blanks can kill someone, although not if they are shot into the air:

But even if they took all the proper safety precautions, I can't imagine as a guest thinking, "Oh, that's so sweet!" as opposed to, "What the h*** do they think they're doing?!?!?"

@MrsBest2B: As the article points out, if you use live ammunition, people can get killed by bullets fired into the sky. (What goes up must come down, and all that.)

Every time I see someone reference Texas in a thread, it reminds me of the troll who shouted that she was from Texas "THE BEST STATE EVER!"

Although she was a troll, and a little crazy, she was dead on in her state perceptions :-)

@2nd Bride - Yes, shooting live ammo into the air is an utterly stupid thing and likely could kill someone. It would also land your ass in jail. You can't just discharge a live round from a gun like that in most places, especially most places that a wedding would be held. Gun laws vary greatly from state to state. If anyone were to do this, I would hope that they are already a gun owner who is responsible enough to know the legality issues that go along with this, as well as use respectful and responsible firearm etiquette. FH and I are responsible gun owners, and I am sure he would love to do something like this, but we live and are having our ceremony in IL (one of the most restrictive gun law states in the nation), so I doubt that would be allowed legally and I don't think the golf course where we are having the wedding would approve either.
