Providing Transportation for Guests

I had a guest already reach out to me and ask if I'm providing transportation to and from the venue. Since the venue is not that far from the hotels, I don't really think it is necessary and it's also an additional cost. My FH and I are already paying for our own wedding. Did you provide transportation for your guests? Is it necessary? Thoughts?

I remember weddings not being this complicated growing up lol

Most Hotels usually give the service for free if you have 10-15 rooms blocked (and paid for) for your wedding up to a certain time. For ours, we will have free shuttles before our wedding at certain time, and will have certain times of leaving back to the hotel. If we go past 10 PM, the shuttle costs $50 an hour, which isn't bad. Our hotel is 10 miles or less for our Ceremony/Reception (same location) but figured will provide transportation, especially since everyone lives 2+ hours away from our town.

If the wedding is 5 miles away, you really don't need transportation but it would be nice for the guests. Mainly so no one has to DD or pay for an Uber/Lyft.

We provided transportation for our bridal party and their guests. It helped not only to keep the group together, but everyone was also on time and ready for photos. My husband and I rode in a limo from the church to our reception venue.

Im kind of shocked by how many people just assume we are providing transportation. It originally was not in our budget but my fh found a service for half the price- it’s not luxury but it’s something local to our area. One of our guests isn’t staying at our hotel- which is fine but plans on ubering to our blocked hotel to get the shuttle. At the time I heard this, we didn’t have a shuttle. My sil always said she was so glad she got married before Pinterest and so much on the internet.

I'm very on the fence about this as well. I'm really not sure i can fit it in the budget - but our venue has cabins inside the resort that are blocked for my guests. and the hotel i blocked is 10 minutes away. I feel we should offer it but we are allowing guests to bring kids so i'm not expecting everyone to be irresponsible and the ones that are to possibly have that taken care of in advance? ugh idk what to do.

We aren't, mainly because it isn't really in our budget. The majority of the guest list is friends that are all from the same general area and they have discussed among themselves getting a school bus and having everyone meet and pitch in for that, which is cool. We also aren't blocking off hotel rooms as the only few out of town guests are my family and they have places they stay when they come visit so they won't be staying in a hotel. Any rooms we blocked would go unfilled so we just decided not to block any.

I’m not. It’s not in my budget. Plus our venue from our main hotel to the venue is only a 7 minute ride. Our venue also offers free valet services and not all my guests will be staying at that hotel so it’ll be hard to provide transportation anyway. I will probably suggest my guests in taking an Uber/Lyft to the venue. If your hotel offers shuttle services, I think that’s even better.

I don't think it's required but it certainly is nice. If there is uber/lyft/taxi service in the area, then it's not a big deal. If there isn't, then I would seriously considering hiring something!
