Providing alcohol

Ashley, on February 1, 2020 at 7:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hello everyone! I am reaching out because I need advice on providing alcohol. My fiance and I have already discussed that we will provide 2 kegs of beer to our guests and if they want liquor they can bring their own. We are not big drinkers so we do not feel the importance of alcohol at our wedding. We do however want our guests to have a good time. We are expecting no more than 100 people. I'm wondering if 2 kegs of 2 different options of beer is too much? Or do we stick with what we talked about? Thoughts??

You will be able to get a little more than 300 beers from two kegs. I don’t think that will be too much for 100 people.

2 kegs would be sufficient, but I think you should avoid telling guests to BYOB. That can be seen as tacky and is a big liability.

Two kegs is plenty. I will agree with Caitlin in that I don't necessarily feel that asking people to BYOB if they don't like beer is tacky but that is a kind of know your crowd type situation but it could be a liability. Even if you are having a reception at a private residence it could be a slight liability but it would be no more of a liability than if you were to have liquor served your own home. I would check with the venue though to make sure that is okay.

My sister had 2kegs at hers for 125 people however it was a very party atmosphere and they did kick the two kegs. It was a very young crowd. Plus thy hey had wine too. So I'd say just know your crowd for most atmospheres I would say 2 is pleanty.

We are doing BYOB mostly to save money, the venue pretty much only supplies that table, chairs, and kitchen so finding someone to provide alchohol is kind of a pain so we said forget it. We are providing mead for our toast and small shots of liquor for the dollar dance (put in a dollar, get a shot) but that's it.

I think two kegs will be plenty. I would check with your venue before you tell your guests to bring their own liquor if they would like to. Depending on where you get married, the venue may require liquor to be provided by a vendor of their approval, or there may be a clause in your contract about liquor being served by a licensed bartender.

Totally agree. I would not tell guest to bring own alchohol and in some places there are restrictions on that. Also if you have people traveling to your wedding that can come off as tacky. If your are not drinkers stick to beer and wine. that give people options and you dont have to worry about spirits and breaking the bank. It a very popular option. For my wedding I am doing 3 beers, red wine, white wine, and a champagne punch as a signature cocktail. and I was able to keep cost down
