Providing alcohol or hiring a Bar Service

Sarah, on February 23, 2020 at 11:06 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 3
Hello everyone! The venue my fiance and I picked let's you bring in your bar services and catering. We are just having a hard time determining if we want to provide the alcohol and hire a couple of bartenders or hire a company that will provide the alcohol and bartenders? We are unsure how much we would even buy if we provided it ourselves...just curious what you all recommend or have done in the past. Thanks!

Purchasing your own alcohol and hiring bartenders may be slightly more cost-effective, but hiring a company could mean less of a headache for you. Paying for the service means you don't have to go buy the liquor, worry about the set-up, get together the mixers/garnishes/etc. I'd just prefer the smaller headache. However, if you do decide to supply your own alcohol, you can use a calculator like the one from Big Red Liquors to calculate how much of each you'll need based on guest number, length of party, and how much they drink (light, moderate, heavy drinkers).

I’d hire a caterer who provides the bar service as well. Fewer vendors to coordinate amongst the better! Further, check your local laws. If you buy the alcohol and the hire the bartenders, in many places you also need to get the license to provide the alcohol (since I assume your venue doesn’t have one of they’re not providing).

I would just hire bartenders and get your own alcohol because that’s far more cost effective
