Pros/Cons - Reception Venue only VS. Hotel all-inclusive Reception (HELP!)

mmbrake28, on March 28, 2017 at 11:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 52

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm stressing out about picking a reception venue because both are TOTALLY different. I've viewed about 8 places but have finally narrowed it down to my top 2.

Option A) A beautiful brick-wall & wood floor venue

Option B) A hotel ballroom

I'm going for a woodsy-garden/floral theme and my colors are going to be blush/gold/champaign with hints of dark-forest green.

I will include some pictures of both venues here as well as my vision for my decor.

In the comments I will include a PROS/CONS of each as of now.

Please give me your input! I'm stressing out because both venues are already booking up and I'm really unsure about what to do!

I'd go with A, without even hearing pros and cons.

Here are the pictures. The first pic is Option A, the second pic is Option B, and the third pic is the overall aesthetic and decor theme I'm going for

100% A. Hotel ballrooms are so bland.

I vote for A as well, I think it fits with your theme a little better and you described it as beautiful in your original post, which I think says something about your thoughts on the two venues.

    Thoughts:

Option A is gorgeous. The only part I worry about not fitting with your vision is the industrial ceilings. Are you okay with them? Other than that, I see very well how that can go with your vision.

    That being said:

The ballroom is nice too. I'm getting married at a country club, and it has a ballroom and is all inclusive. And let me just say, that it has made planning a BREEZE. Catering, tables, rentals, all taken care of. Which has been really nice. Though I've been lucky enough that they have a very nice neutral ballroom (that doesn't look hotel-y) that I've been able to decorate in my vision. So you definitely have options to weigh in. I say if you're willing to do the extra work, A is beautiful.

    PROS/CONS:

    Option A

    PROS

    - Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Exactly the aesthetic I'm going for. I think the brick will totally compliment all the floral I want, and I mean...wood floors trump carpet every single time.

    - Reasonable price ($1,800 on a Saturday for 12 hrs)

    - 15 minute drive from Church

    - No decoration restrictions

    CONS

    - Completely booked all Saturdays in June 2018, which is when I've always envisioned getting married. So will have to switch to July/August

    - Transportation is a biggie...no hotels in a walkable distance. Nearest hotel is 20 min drive. I have a few out-of-town guests, but this is mainly a concern for all our college friends who will definitely be drinking. We've heard some hotels would be willing to shuttle us to and from the location, but still annoying as everyone's cars will be everywhere

    - Will have to go through their preferred vendors, which we weren't initially crazy about

    PROS/CONS

    Option B

    PROS

    - Benefit of having hotel rooms....this is huge and something me and my FH have gone back and forth over. The benefit of having our guests being able to walk to their rooms is soooo nice, especially our college friends who will be drinking and dancing and having fun

    - The hotel is less than 3 years old so everything is super modern

    - Church within minutes of venue

    - Have the room until midnight, regardless of start time

    - Can clean up decorations the next day (super nice benefit!)

    - They only book one wedding per Saturday, so I'd be the only event going on

    - Super nice steakhouse is connected to the restaurant....4-5 star quality. They'd be catering our dinner so I know it'd be delicious

    - Outdoor patio for cocktail hour. Since I'm having a summer wedding, this will be nice to have

    - Complimentary Jr. Suite for me and FH after reception AND giant suite for me and my bridesmaids to get ready in

    - No decoration restrictions

    - Available every Saturday in June

    CONS

    - Not really a ballroom type of girl. Seems overdone and kind of bland

    - HATE the carpet

    - The ballroom colors do not coordinate with my theme at all (black and yellow everything...ugh)

Honestly, the venue was nice and the coordinator was great....just hate the ballroom! Maybe a decorator could fix that? Idk guys...just really love having hotel rooms within walking distance for guests.
