pros/cons: buy a dress online?

Kaitlyn , on February 27, 2015 at 6:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I'm on a budget, needless to say. We're trying to move, plan our wedding, and raise our 3 young babes ? I still have 100% intention to go to a boutique or Davids bridal or wherever else and try dresses on. Unless I find one I absolutely can't live without that's fairly close to my budget I have blocked out, I'm considering an online shop. Etsy, lightinthebox, etc... Please give your feedback on this idea, suggestions to reliable websites, and tips for purchasing a gown online! Thanks

I would give DB a shot before you look online. I had an incredible experience there and they have dresses as low as $99.

It's hard to tell how a dress will actually fit you when you buy it online.

BE CAREFUL! I bought my dress from DB online on sale and accidentaly ordered the wrong size. I noticed it when I got the order confirmation 2 seconds after placing the order. I immediately called DB and there was nothing they could do. I had to wait until I received the dress then send it back and reorder it! Of course by then it was no longer on sale! I know you're probably thinking I'm just not going to be a dummy and order the wrong size but accidents happen!

I bought mine on eBay, from a shop that was selling discontinued samples and it's awesome. I'd stay away from Chinese knockoffs, especially if you don't have extra money for a plan b dress if it comes and is horrible. Target and jc Penney both have bridal lines that are reasonable, and most bridesmaid dresses come in white and ivory, so check those out, too. Good luck!

Id say be careful with the China sites(that lightinthebox may be one of them)... I have no experience personally, just have heard many horror stories of it being a disaster. I got my dress online- from BHLDN. They do have bridal shops, but none near me. Also, they have a 30 day return policy which is nice! They also will guide you through email/phone on sizes for your measurements.

Pros- Not having to deal with trying on a bunch of dresses in a store with a zillion people when you can try it on at home- I did not want to deal with the bridal shops haha!

Cons- Sometimes its hard to tell what the dress is really like in person, and some shops do not allow returns so then you are outta luck

    Good luck!

CON - You might think you ordered a white dress because it looks white online, but in real life it might be inexplicably blue Smiley sad

    Couldn't help it.

I originally had ordered a dress online. I then went to a boutique shop to try on similar styles (as I hadn't tried on the dress I ordered) it turns out I did not like the style at all on me. so I cancelled my online order and I ended up buying a gorgeous dress from the bridal boutique!!

I had a bad experience with BM dresses online, and had to eat the cost of them. I would try on styles in store and see if you can find them in an online bridal resale or consignment shop. The girls at the consignment shop here told me most of their dresses are brand new, tags on, from brides who changed their minds on the dress, got pregnant, called off their wedding, etc.
