PRO: You aren't running around like animals trying to find a seat and getting separated from your family.

    CON: None.

You can do assigned tables. In fact, you should at least assign tables. No assigned seating is messy and makes things way more difficult on your guests.

Assign tables at the very least. Or else families are separated, people are dragging chairs all over the place, some tables are empty, other forms of chaos, etc. Assigned seat? I don't think that's super necessary unless everyone is at one super long table like they have in the movies and you have to make sure Uncle Bob and Aunt Sally are very far from one another.

If you are doing a plated meal, assigning?seats can make it easier on the servers.

    At least assign tables though.

We aren't assigning seats, but we are assigning tables. Everyone will have an escort card that they will pick up from a larger table to bring with them to their seats. We are having a plated meal, so their entree choice will be indicated on the escort card as well.

Im assigning seats. We have a plated meal, and (for me) it makes sense to have the meals come out without having to ask or checking the place cards.

We're assigning seats because we are giving our guests a choice of 3 meals.

I agree with everyone. Assign tables at least, unless there is a choice of meals (then some places will require assigned seats to make it easier to get the meals out). I had trying to fight my way to a table and even possibly being split up from my family or FH.

We are assigning tables. We considered open seating and then thought about how people leave a seat between them or how the late arrivals will have that "getting on a full bus the first day at a new school" feeling. So we decided for everyone's sake table assignments are helpful.

Definetly assign tables. It makes it easier for guests to settle in and enjoy.

Just assign tables. Assigning actual seats isn't necessary in most cases.

No need to assign seats unless you have really huge tables or are doing plated entrees. It will be easier for servers if you have a written seat on the table with the food selection for each guest. If you're doing buffet or stations, I think you'd be fine to just assign tables.

I do see where assigning seats and/or tables would be a very great idea. But for me and my fiancé were not doing so instead were making the tables into a big 'U' shape so everyone will be around us. Family is what matters to me and him most so thats what we decides butits completely up to you

Assigning tables works. It may take a while to create the seating chart, but it'll be worth it. People won't want to have separate from the people they know, especially if they only know 1 person.
