For me personally, ive lost weight and my engagement ring is a little loose but instead of resizing it im getting a half size smaller ring enhancer as my wedding band so it stays in place. Im hoping that by keeping my engagement ring slightly big ill be able to wear it while pregnant where as my wedding band probably wont fit. Its also nice to be able to wear one or the other while traveling

I think this kind of depends on your preference! I like the idea of being able to wear just my wedding band for a simpler look. I also have big hands that tend to swell a lot in the heat. Soldering the rings together obviously makes it wider which can make it harder to get off. I plan on leaving mine as two seperate pieces! ☺️

I would personally keep them separate especially to avoid voiding you ring warranty and care plan with rhe jeweler and insurance purposes because custom costs more. Why are you thinking of fusing them?

A friend asked why I was planning on keeping my ring and band separate and I really didn’t have a reason why not! I’m still planning on keeping them separate but I was wondering if anyone swears by fusing them.

Exact same logic I am having...from having wedding band keep engagement ring more in place and not resizing engagement ring till after babies!

I have never even considered fusing them and didn't really think that was common. I would be curious to hear the benefits of fusing them?

I fused mine, i have 2 bands around the engagement ring. I don't want them sliding around on my finger annoying me.

H had my rings fused before he proposed. That way I wouldn’t have to be without it after the wedding. I like it fused together because I don’t wear a lot of jewelry and I feel like 2 rings would be awkward on me.

I had mine soldered together. With the design of my ring I would never wear them separately. I used to work in a jewelry store and when you wear two rings together they rub against each other and can damage each other. I never even thought about not soldering them together.

I am not soldering my rings for a few reasons. I'd like to hand my engagement and my weddings bands down to my kids one day, so therefore fusing them together would be silly.

My engagement ring diamond is also rather big and pointy and sometimes I scratch myself with it. When I have a baby one day, I won't be wearing my engagement ring for the first few months of the babies life so I don't scratch them. So I want to keep them separate so I can wear my wedding band alone.

I've also read a lot about how soldering can really ruin the metal if you ever want to separate them again. Of course a good jeweler should have no problem with this, but I don't want to weaken the metal. Overall I want them separate so I can wear them separate if need be.

Soldering the rings together will also greatly reduce the value of each ring.

Personally, I won’t be soldering my rings. I want the option to wear my wedding band separate from my engagement ring. As some have mentioned when you wear rings next to one another they can rub and damage eachother, but I spoke with my jeweler and he said that with the same type of metal and due to my designs it shouldn’t be an issue. So if that’s your concern discuss it with your jeweler.

I’m keeping mine separate... I plan to have my wedding ring on at all times but I’d like to take my ER off for vacations and such so I’m not worried about losing it or it getting stolen. While I do plan to usually wear both of them, I do like the option of just wearing one or the other. Plus if we were to eventually pass my engagement ring down to a grandchild or something, wouldn’t want the wedding band soldered to it

I didn't know fusing the rings was so unpopular! I fused mine because my wedding band and my engagement ring band are the exact same band. They only have diamonds halfway around the band so if they weren't fused together, the wedding band would move around my finger so easily. I would look down throughout the day and just to see the plain metal which was not a good look! If it looks pretty with your ring combination then I recommend doing it!

But....in my opinion, if you're worried about how fusing your rings would lower their value then that says something else about your marriage. If you didn't fuse because you might want to sell them someday, that's a pretty big red flag that you don't think your marriage is going to last very long....

That second part isn't necessarily true. My dad lost his business when I was in middle school and our family went through some real financial struggles. My parents both pawned their rings a few times just so we'd have enough money for gas or a few groceries. If my moms ring had been soldered she would have got less money for them.

Either way, they both have their rings back now, thankfully, and they're very stable since both getting new jobs (this was literally 10 years ago). But you never ever know what life will throw at you. And in times of struggle if you have to sell or pawn your ring to feed your kids I'd rather get as much as possible for my ring. That doesn't mean I think my marriage is going to fail.

I plan to fuse mine together. My skin is incredibly sensitive and having them move differently on my finger would drove me crazy. We purposely didn't spend a lot for our rings and I am not worried about the value. My wedding band and my engagement ring are each halves of the other, so fusing them makes sense.

Interesting! I was thinking about fusing them specifically because small diamonds only cover half of my wedding band and it keeps sliding to the side that is just metal. And I have also heard from many older couples that the rings get damaged from rubbing against each other if they are not fused.
