Pros and cons to a mermaid style dress?

Jessica, on March 11, 2018 at 3:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22
Help!

So im stuck between 3 different dresses. They are all vastly different, ones a mermaid with lots of lace and beading. Ones an a like with simple lace on top and a beaded belt and the other is a ball gown with color and lace.

What are the pros and cons, and what are you opinions on the dresses?

Everyone keeps saying that it’s my choice and it only matters what I like, but I’m stuck. I need opinions!

Mermaid dresses can constrict your movement and make sitting uncomfortable. Your first doesn’t look too tight as far as mermaid styles go. I usually don’t like the look of mermaids but the first dress looks incredible on you. I say dress 1

I LOVE the second one! It looks so good on you.

I chose to not get a dress that is fitted around my hips/butt/stomach because I don't want to worry about gaining/losing 1.35 pounds or whatever and having it not fit as well. I also want to eat whatever I want the day of and not worry about being bloated.

There is already enough to worry about.

Do you like it more than the 3rd dress?
The third dress has a lot of support in it

I personally didn't love the mermaid style on me, as i felt like it was too constricting. Comfort was big for me, soI went with an ALine although it is a slim a line so you get a slight mermaid look. I think it depends on what you want though, they are all stunning. The 2nd one, from the back looks incredible. I don't know if I'm the biggest fan of the front with the little keyhole but you look great. I like the look of the 1st one the best but I think if comfort is a concern, go with #2.

I have a trumpet, which is basically the same as a mermaid but it flares out a little higher. I think yours might be actually? But I am probably wrong. I haven't had my wedding yet, I will soon, but it isn't the most comfortable to sit in, but seems like it will be okay to dance in. I'm biased, but I LOVE the first one. Anything strapless, mermaid/trumpet and lace like mine is my favorite. It seems to fit you really well and shows off your body in a classy way. I'm not a big fan of the princess/ball gown dresses, but they look beautiful on you too. Just be aware that alterations for the first dress might be more expensive and time consuming (with the lace and with the silhouette). Every inch I've been losing or gaining they've had to alter. So, alterations have been pretty expensive and it is frustrating at times because you can see every bulge (on me, not you at all) and with a ball gown or something similar I think people in general might have an easier time with alterations - if you gain weight or lose weight (a small amount) I don't think you have to worry too much about getting it altered again. I feel like I'm spewing out a bunch of common sense.

I tried on dress 3! It was my second choice- the lace was so pretty.

I went with a dress similar to dress 2 because I wanted to be comfortable. More fitted dresses like dress 1 felt constricting, and they can be awkward to sit in. More full dresses like dress 3 felt really heavy, like I was being weighed down. My skirt was pretty much the exact same as dress 2, and it was so comfy. I could move freely, but it wasn't heavy. It was really important to me that I be comfortable.

I do like it more than the 3rd! Also, it might just be the lighting, but it seems like the whiter ones (#1 and #2) go with your skin tone more. Could just be the lighting though.

i liked how heavy #3 was because of the way it felt more secured

I’m getting married under two willow trees at a barn in the middle of Wisconsin in September. It’s projected to be in the 80s, and the trees will be in full bloom

A question, how often do you tend to need to use the restroom? If you tend to go often, having a dress/set-up to make that easier may be a big factor in choice.

I'm nearly always in favour of a ball gown but I'd get it in ivory or white, not the blush.

I think the first dress is super flattering on you, which is not always the case with that style so props for that! I think it would be beautiful in the setting you talked about, but so would #3! I think if you are leaning towards it because you loved and it and felt amazing in it, go for it! Also, if you haven't already, try them on with a veil and any other accessories you might be interested in. It can make a huge difference!

I have a similar silhouette dress and I have to say the pro is it looks AMAZING. The con is that it's very uncomfortable to sit in.

Love the third dress. I think it's hard to walk in mermaid dresses. I tried one when I was looking and didn't really like it. I ended up choosing A-line.
