Proper Etiquette for Escort Card Wording

Danielle, on May 15, 2022 at 1:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hello! Can anyone assist and explain how individual names should be displayed on an escort card? My google search has not been as helpful as I would have liked, haha! For instance, does everyone get their own escort card or do couples and families have one escort card? Do you put it the same as their "formal" invitation greeting - Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Smith or is it Ronald and Jessica Smith? If it is a couple that isn't married or have two different last names - Mr. John Doe and Ms. Mary Cohen or John Doe and Mary Cohen? Which is similar to the individual question - Ms. Audra Jones or just Audra Jones? Hope those examples are helpful to explain my question. Appreciate your help and insight.

Each individual should have an escort card. And I think you can be less formal with the names

Escort cards are for individuals so each person gets their own, regardless of whether you are serving buffet or plated meals. They also will double as letting the waitstaff know what meals they are getting in a plated dinner situation. Titles are optional. For a black tie wedding, use titles. For formal and below, skip the titles. You don’t need to pick their chair, just assign them to tables.

Yep escort cards for each person. If it's not a black tie wedding, you can use informal names.

We aren’t doing black tie, so not adding everyone’s titles, but for anyone that is a Doctor, we made sure to add “Dr.” Some are super sensitive about that, so we did it for all doctors in attendance just to be safe.

Adding that when you set the cards out, have them organized alphabetically rather than by table so people are able to find them easier. People know how the alphabet works, but they won't know what table you have them at ahead of time.

I used first and last names and everyone got their own card. There were a couple people invited with a plus one but never told me their names so i put them right next to invited person but wrote "John Doe Guest". Worked out well.
