Processional Music Suggestions

Haley, on May 16, 2019 at 10:25 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 10

I really don't like the traditional music, so I was hoping to get some suggestions. I am walking down the aisle to "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri, but the wedding party will be walking down to something different, though I'm not sure what.

We have 4 each, plus flower girl and ring bearer, so I'm a little worried about the length of the songs. What do I do if everyone walks down the aisle long before the song finishes? I know I will definitely be at the end of the aisle before my song is over. Do we just let it play through the end before continuing, or cut the song off in the middle?

We can't do a rehearsal at the actual venue either so it's not like I'll get to practice with the actual "aisle," so I'm not sure how accurate a rehearsal somewhere else would be. Also, I have to send the music list to the DJ a month before the wedding (July) and most of our wedding party lives out of state and won't be here until the week prior to the wedding.

I know that's a lot, but seriously, any advice or suggestions will help. FH is no help. He pretty much helped me pick out our first dance song, the song I'm walking down the aisle to, and the groom/mother dance, and that was the extent of it. Lol.

Would you be able to have them play the song again?
Or, you could always guesstimate how long the aisle is and walk that length at the approximate speed you think the wedding party will be going

I could, but I’d rather use the song just for me to walk down the aisle to and have a separate song for the wedding party. FH wants me to come in at a certain point in the song and he wants it to be a really special moment.
I can try the guesstimating thing, but I still need to have a song picked out by July and only 1 out of the 8 will be in the state that early Smiley sad
    Thanks, though

Re: Your song- Have it queued up ahead of time for your grand entrance and then have someone gradually lower the volume til the song fades away when you get to your FH. My friend did that at her wedding and it was beautiful. If you let it play it'll be awkward. Use this approach for your attendants' music as well.

Attendant's processional can go many ways:

    1. Slow and romantic: Any song you'd have a first dance to: Ellie Goulding- How Long Will I Love you; Elton John - Your Song; Ingrid Michaelson - Can't help Falling in Love
    2. Gentle but upbeat: Bruno Mars - Marry You
    3. Classic: Frank Sinatra - Witchcraft
    4. Edgy but sweet: AWOLNATION - All I Need
    5. Campy: Meg and Dia - Said and Done; Ingrid Michaelson - The Way I Am

Are you having musicians or a dj? I’m i a quartet and we watch really carefully for when the bride is up there and come to a stopping point. Just smile at your fiancé while you’re waiting. A dj can easily fade at any time. I am using Bless the Broken Road for my bridal party processional and Make You Feel My Love for me.

I have a DJ, but I hadn’t thought that he probably knows to fade the music out! He’s been doing this for a while haha. Thank you!

I just emailed my venue coordinator to tell me the approximate length of the aisle (in feet), so that I could measure it out at home, and practice, using the song I want. That way, I can work with the DJ on where to cut the song, or to fade out, etc. I have a really big back yard, and I'm sure the length of it is shorter than my actual aisle, so that's my practice area. I just want to get the timing down as best I can. I've chosen one song for all of us (bridal party and me) to walk to. I know the song is longer than the walk will be, but I want to see how far into it we get once we all walk.

I am doing something a little different. Another thing to consider (this is purely preference on your part) the groomsmen are not walking to alter like the bridesmaids are. They will enter from the side with my fiance or if they have to walk down the aisle (purely for logistics purposes) they will not be walking with music. I've seen a lot of ceremonies where the men will follow the officiant in. There will be some light background music going as everyone is waiting. But the music won't actually start until the processional starts.
