Processional: Lyrics vs Instrumental

Emily, on October 16, 2016 at 11:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

For awhile now, I've had a few different song ideas in my head for what I want my bridesmaids and then I to walk down the wedding aisle to. While I enjoy instrumental music, the particular songs I'm thinking of sound better in their lyrical form as opposed to an instrumental version (like Vitamin String Quartet).

For the bridesmaids: Foo Fighters' Everlong (Acoustic version)

My own processional: Coldplay's Til Kingdom Come

I like them, but my mom seems a bit weirded out by the fact that they will have words in them. I haven't been to a ton of weddings... Is having lyrics in your processional music unheard of or frowned upon?

Not sure if it's unheard of, but one of my processional songs is with the lyrics. I think it's a personal choice, no right or wrong answer here.

My uncle got married last year and they had lyrics and I will have lyrics my bridesmaids are walking to marry you by Bruno Mars and I'm walking to thousand years by Christina perri I'm doing lyrics I love these songs especially mine it's such a beautiful song and it just doesn't sound the same without the words but it's definitely a personal choice but weddings aren't how they were years ago there's so many more things you can do now that wouldn't have been accepted in the past such as having lyrics or having modern songs instead of the traditional here comes the bride ... but weddings have become more modern. ..I say it's your day choose the songs you want and if you want the lyrics have lyrics

I preferred no lyrics for my processional and recessional songs as I didn't want them to be a distraction.

I've been to weddings with lyrics, so it's not unheard of. If that's what you want, go for it!

I did lyrics for both processional songs. This is one of those details that you can say it's my day and I'm gonna do it my way

We are having "gathering music" while everyone is seated and such And these are songs by Jason mraz, ed Sheeran , etc. but actual ceremony music is hallelujah piano version and I'm walking to here comes the bride piano version. But it's your day, you do you.

( I know I misspelled ed Sheeran but I'm tired of fighting with auto correct about it lol )

It's completely your choice. We had songs with lyrics and no one said anything. We picked songs that were the best reflection of us.
