Private ceremony in the court house a real reception

Kamila, on August 5, 2019 at 12:25 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3
I have stage fright and I’m not really girly nor am I excited to plan a wedding, I love my person and I can’t wait to just be married to him but with both of our families the idea of elopement is out of the question. So my idea is to have a small intimate court house ceremony with our parents and then have a reception same day for everyone to enjoy. Am I being rude for not wanting everyone there to stare at me while I get married? It gives me anxiety to even think about it.

Since you would only have parents attending the courthouse ceremony, having a larger reception should be fine!

We seriously considered doing this. Just having our parents and kids at a small ceremony and then plan a reception. Only reason we didn’t was bc I didn’t want to plan two different events. But I think it’s a great solution to your anxieties and still have a great day and marry your love!

That sounds perfectly fine! We attended a similar wedding, where the ceremony was limited to close family only. (As a guest, we didn't get to see it!) The reception was open to more people, and the couple joined us afterwards for dinner and dancing.

My husband and I also do not enjoy the spotlight either. My bridesmaids commented that our wedding was the most introvert-friendly one they've attended. Fast ceremony with no custom vows and we cut a lot of items from the reception (e.g. bouquet toss, garter toss, toasts were done at the welcome dinner the day before, etc.). It's your day, so do whatever makes you comfortable!
