For those that printed their invitations on their own, what kind of printer did you use?

We printed out our invitations at Office Max with their professional printers on 80# glossy cover paper (good quality, shiny paper—but looking back, I think I’d actually have preferred to get it on regular 110# card stock because the gloss is too much for me).

I used my cannon pixma ix6820 and bought textured felt paper/cardstock. I have only done the save the dates and envelopes so far. The invitations will be printed this weekend.

I ordered sample invitations from minted just to check them out before deciding to make it a diy project. I think mine look just as nice..if not nicer because I used quality paper..for a small percentage of the cost.

I bought invitations at Michaels a while ago ($10 for a box of 40). They are on a cardstock type of paper. I was able to get the template from the website and I just used my printer at home. I have a Cannon printer and I was able to position them in the center of the tray and they printed out perfectly. I printed out about 90 invitations, response cards, and a bunch of labels and I didn't even need to buy more cartridges. I did test it out on a few regular pieces of paper first, and my invitation kit did have an extra invitation in it.

I will say that one downside to my printer is that I didn't pay attention to the standard sizes that it will print. My paper was a little bigger so I ended up having to cut it slightly since it wouldn't print borderless. After that, I made sure the invite paper was a standard size before ordering or designing it.

Does your printer have the tabs in the tray so you can position the paper in the middle? I didn't even realize that mine did until I pulled the tray out. Maybe cut regular paper to the size of the invite and use post-it notes so that you can position it in the printer correctly.
