Printing addresses on envelopes

Katharine, on January 20, 2017 at 12:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

So we got our STD's and got matching envelopes. I've been trying to print addresses directly on them and it's just not working. They keep coming out crooked no matter what I do, I've tried putting them in all different ways. It's an ink jet and you have to put the paper in a document tray. There isn't a feeder on top or a way to manually feed them. I've wasted too many envelopes already and I want to smash the printer to bits.

We're paying a family friend to do our invitations, she does calligraphy, so I don't think it makes sense to get a new printer just for this.

I know it's frowned upon to use labels, so it would be bad to use labels right? Even if they were clear?

The other option is to just get plain white envelopes. The crookedness is minor, you can't notice it on a plain envelope, st only noticeable on the envelopes because of their style (I attached a picture).

Does anyone have any other advice to try? My handwriting is horrible I don't want to do it myself.

Thanks!

I used labels. FH handwriting is horrible and my gets pretty bad after writing a bunch. I personally never notice who something is written on the envelope unless my name is spelled wrong.

I think labels are fine for STDs. I wouldn't use them on invitation though stick with your calligrapher. Don't stress too much about it.

Oh this makes me feel better, I'll stop worrying about it and just get clear labels. Thank you all!

^Yes labels - and for your invitation envelopes I would recommend choosing a design with less printing on them to give your calligrapher more space to write in.

Use the clear labels. If you want to print on the envelopes, you have to configure your printer to do so, which isn't really easy on an Ink Jet. Those types of printers are meant for printing documents rather than printing stationery.

I printed directly on the envelopes for my save the dates. I loaded the envelope into the adjustable paper tray. I pushed the adjuster levers in so they were tight with the envelopes. Hopefully yours has the adjuster thingies! Good luck

I'm using labels that we're printing directly on. They are clear and it's really hard to tell they're labels. I think it's a great time and money saver

Some printers can't handle small envelopes. My invitation envelopes were fine but my reply envelopes were all crooked.

Oddly enough, it was my transportation vendor that gave the best advice on this. Type your addresses in whatever swirly script text you like. Then, print them on your envelopes in a light grey color and use a calligraphy pen to trace over it. No one will ever know! Great for holiday cards too!

I'm nervous about his I'll be doing it in the next few days. I do have the tightener things though at least. And I just discovered mail merge! It's an amazing thing!! Good luck
