Printed or Hand Written Envelopes

Melissa, on June 21, 2019 at 7:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23
Hi all, so for my save the dates I handwrote the the addresses. Another couple my fiancee knows ended up having printed envelopes, and a couple I know, handwrote thier envelopes for thier wedding invintations. Does it matter or indicate anything weather or not to print or handwrite addresses? If you've printed where did you go to have it done?
Thank you!
Melissa
*back to my last batch of save the dates, because a certain FH just gave me his co-workers addresses*

It really doesn’t matter, but printed is so much easier.

I don’t think it matters. My cousin printed our address labels for me. I only did that bc my handwriting is unpredictable. Sometimes I think it looks nice and other times I don’t. I did wind up writing out one address and it looked horrible. I ordered return labels for free from Shutterfly.

Unless you are a true calligraphy artist, handwritten rarely looks better than printed. Just print them. I used minted, envelope printing was free

I don't think it matters but just think about if you really want to spend the time on addressing all of them. We didn't want to and printed them on Minted. We ordered our invitations elsewhere and paid $25 to get our envelopes printed.

I just hand-wrote mine, but printed to stick on is faster.

I got mine printed. The money was worth the time it would take to hand write them.

I ordered my save the dates on minted, which offers free printed envelopes. That made me realize how much work it would have been to hand write out my wedding envelopes. I found my wedding invitations on Etsy and the invitations were reasonably priced and included printed envelopes - made my (OCD) life sooo much easier lol. I only had to write names on the RSVP cards (by choice because we have a very limited guest list and no room for extras).

If you buy your invitations from minted.com they will do free address printing along with things like place cards, table numbers, etc. You choose font, color, and the return addresses are nice looking especially if you choose one that matches the design on your invitations. I matched my "the knot" website to it as well. You can upload a spreadsheet. I had extra blanks and my hand addressing looked terrible next to the pretty printed ones. However, most invitations I've received were hand-addressed so I think you can go either way.

Honestly I dont think people will really care in the end. They throw the envelopes away pretty much instantly anyways. I printed addresses onto labels at work and put them on the save the dates. For the invites, I handwrote them...I regret it tho...it took forever Haha plus I dont have the best sense of where the center of an envelope is apparently. Things were so off centered and all over the place

It's really about the whole package. Your invitations will convey the formality of your event.

I spent waaaayy too much on my DIY invites. $200 for 30. They are lovely and my handwriting was decent, if I say so myself. They have charm and I'm hoping to have an intimate casual wedding so it works. That being said... how formal is your event and what is your budget? For an extremely formal event definitely get them printed or hire a calligrapher (is that really a thing lol?) If you're not too particular and neither is your crowd than handwriting will be fine.

I will agree with pps everything I've seen brides share from Minted is beyond beautiful.

What do you want your invitations to look like?

For our save the dates, we did an electronic one. For invitations, I handwrote all invitation envelopes and RSVP envelopes. It just makes it more personal, and I am into calligraphy / lettering anyway so that was sort of my thing.

Both of our handwriting is terrible. So I made basic clear labels for the save the dates. Those are general more informal than invitations. For the invitations, I spent the time printing straight onto the envelope from Word. I chose a pretty font that's still easily readable by the post office. It was called Lucienda Caligraphy. This took a long time as I had to do each envelope separately, but it looked SO GOOD and didn't cost anything extra.

Hand writing is so much more personal. Gives that little something more meaningful in my opinion. Congratulations

I hand wrote our Save the Dates but had addresses printed on invitations. Printing the addresses was free through the company we ordered invites from so it was easier to just have them printed. I think both printed or handwriting are totally fine.

Cool! Calligraphy artists are talked about all the time on here. I'm sure a Google search would pull one up in my area but it doesn't seem like a very common profession. Super cool skill though!
