Printed Dress for Engagement Photos?

Aggie, on April 29, 2013 at 12:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hi Brides,

I have a quick question. As my Engagement Photos are going to be shot in mid-May at a botanical garden I was wondering what to wear...I have a very pretty dress but it has a busy print on it and a lot of different colors. It's hard for me to find something that I like so I was thinking of wearing it and having my fiance' wear a solid collared shirt in a neutral color that matches. But, I have never had professional pictures taken before and I think I remember hearing that you shouldn't wear a print or anything that is going to draw the attention from your face in photos.

Any advice?

I think it depends. I stuck to solids for mine, but if you google images for engagement pictures or check out photographer websites, oh, and pinterest, some girls do wear prints and they work.

Do some research. You could also consider wearing a cardi over the dress to kind of break up the print a bit. Definitely put him in solids or even thin stripes.

Can you post a picture of the dress?

I have a multi-color dress that I will be wearing. When I purchased it, I was thinking whatever my FH's decides to wear; I will have that color on. He is so not a "dress up" kind of guy, so I played it safe. Originally we were both going to wear white shirts & black pants, then change to white shirts & jeans; now he wants me in a dress, smh

My dress was black with big flowers on it in different colors. Not too busy but still printed. Then I had my FH wear a plain green sweater (there was a little green in my dress so it wasn't mis-matching). I think it was a great choice, especially because I was totally comfortable in it all day. Wear what you like!

Prints can work. This article is helpful. Granted if also focuses on kids as well as adults but the same principles apply:

I wore a black dress and then a black lace top with jeans. FH was in a blue colored shirt. I would go solids! Black is always best in my eyes!
