Hello,

So I made an appointment with the seamstress that my dry cleaner recommended. I chose not to use David's Bridal b/c according to them I waited to long to decide on having the dress bustled and they said there was no way to get the bustle done by November. I didn't even ask a price from DB. I am curious as to what is the average price of this? I don't think my cleaners would send me some place where I'd get ripped off.

I just got back from my appointment with the seamstress and come to find out she not only does alterations, she is also an event planner. She charged me a total of $30 for the bustle and to take the dress in slightly around the bust area. She said it would be approximately 2 weeks and I'd have my dress. I also plan on using her for flowers/centerpieces.

As a seamstress I'm surprised at the cheap alterations everyone is talking about. Bustles take time and sewing skill. I've seen some of the home made bustles, they are almost never done right and the styles of bustles used rarely flattering for the dress. It's wise to go to an experienced seamstress who knows the proper ways. I charge $35 for one point(these are rare), $60 for 3 points, $80 for 5 points, and ballroom bustles which are complex and more time consuming start at $100.

The $30 for taking in and bustle, the $5/ bustle and $10/ bustle is like slave labor and I can't believe anyone would charge that!! Beware who you are trusting with your dress these people obviously have no idea!
