Presents for family throwing bridal showers

Nikki, on February 22, 2017 at 12:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

When friends or family throw you a bridal shower, a) do you get them a gift for doing so; b) if so, what would be an appropriate amount to spend on the gift??

I'm getting them a nice bottle of wine, but I think it depends on the person & what they like.

Yes, you should absolutely give the host or hostesses a gift. I bought mine their favorite bottle of liquor (lasts longer than wine). You could also do wine or maybe a nice loaf of French bread and dipping oil.

I bought small thank you gifts for those who hosted my showers. My SIL gave the one for my side of the family. She was pregnant at the time so I bought her a cute maternity top that I knew she would like. The SILs and my MIL threw the shower for DH's side and I gave each of the SILs a cute coffee tumbler and I gave MIL a huge box of dark chocolates. I tried to find things I knew each would enjoy.

I cannot stop giggling at the idea of giving someone a loaf of bread. LOL

I am going to get my sister a massage at her favorite spa. And probably some wine.

Yes a gift!! I hosted my sister's shower and she just gave me a handwritten card. It was sweet, but a bottle of wine would have been nicer Smiley winking

I bought my shower hosts nice candles from Kringle Candle. And I'm writing them thank you notes, of course.

I'm having two showers. For the one my MOH is throwing I'll get her some really nice truffles from a local chocolatier, and some of her favorite loose leaf tea. That'll probably be $25-30 (it's really good tea). For the family shower my aunts are throwing, I'll probably get them the same truffles but with a bottle of wine. Probably more like $30-40 pp.

Following. My SIL is throwing mine and I already sent her flowers for the flower girl so I don't want to double up. She isn't really in to wine.

There are 6 hostesses for my shower, so I'm getting them each a little something--a bottle of wine or liquor and a card.

And I don't think there's anything weird about giving a loaf of bread! I give out homemade bread on a pretty regular basis.

Here's another one in support of giving something to each hostess.

Four of my aunts, plus my dad's girlfriend are throwing a shower for me next month. I bought some locally made organic candles for the aunt who is having the shower in her house and (less expensive) ring holders from World Market for the other ladies.

If you live in an area where unique, locally made gifts can be purchased, those always seem to be appreciated.
