Presents at reception?

Rachel, on July 27, 2019 at 10:00 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
I changed my mind for the venue: The High Alpine Chapel at Boehm's Candies in Issaquah, WA (I've tried changing it in my profile, but it won't edit for some reason). There's a cute little backyard behind the chapel, with a gazebo and a 15ft x 30ft platform, that would be perfect for the reception.

He and I don't want a huge party, just our immediate families coming as witnesses, and then celebrating with a dinner and cake, so I'm estimating about 10 people.

Because there will be plenty of room for the guests underneath the 15x30 tent, next to the buffet table, there should be room for a table for presents, but I don't know whether or not it would be practical. Usually, I don't think guests would haul kitchen appliances and other practical stuff to a wedding. Plus, it would be a lot for my groom and I to bring to our place before the honeymoon.

What do you guys think?

I think having a table for presents is practical! As you said, most guests aren't going to haul a blender to your wedding (unless they really want to for some reason)

Traditionally, it was considered impolite to bring presents to a reception--you were supposed to deliver or mail them before or after the wedding. The theory was that the couple might be going on their honeymoon immediately after the reception, and wouldn't want to have to deal with all the presents.

However, that rule has been forgotten. Pretty much everyone who gave us a present did so at the reception. So having a table where they can put things is a good idea.

Thank you. I just thought, because we would only be inviting our immediate families, it would be silly to have them all come over on a separate occasion for him and I to open presents, when we could just do so at our wedding.

Lol no, it would have to be in the late spring or early summer, and 2020 seems too soon. Nice weather for an outdoor reception, but not too hot. But, because my home state of WA is well-known for our frequent rain at any time of the year, it is best that we have a tent outside.
