Presenting with the wrong ring size

Bryan, on December 6, 2018 at 2:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18
I bought the ring to propose problem is they took forever to deliver and I need to get the ring resized. The store estimated it would be back on the 26th... I really want to propose on Christmas (she loves this time of year). I paid for the service to allow the ring to be resized. I called local places who would have it back before Christmas but I would need to pay a lot more plus the service I bought at the place I bought the ring would I believe be void.

My big question is it okay to propose with the wrong ring size and then go to the store with her to have them ship it to resize? Or should I return the service plan I bought and go with a local store?

Thanks

It's 1000% ok to propose with the wrong size. A lot of guys do because they don't know the correct size. You can still propose on Christmas and have the special moment you wanted and then when things calm down you can send the ring in to get re-sized. This is pretty normal!

Absolutely ok! Mine was a size too big. FH proposed and then we went to the jeweler to get it resized the next day. It didn’t take away from anything at the proposal!

My fiancé ordered my engagement ring from Etsy with my correct size (6), but the way that they made it, it was actually a 10! He proposed with the ring and it slipped right off my finger as soon as I put it on. We had a good laugh, I didn't think any worse of him or of the proposal for it, and we took it into Jared's the next day on Christmas Eve and had it fixed (around $40), because I wanted to be able to show off the ring to family members for Christmas.

So don't worry, it's okay to propose with the wrong size, and there are plenty of local jewelers who can resize in an hour or two if you desparately need it resized. Good luck on the proposal!

You can propose with the wrong size ring or with no ring. My FH ordered my ring and it got delayed two weeks. He ended up not being able to wait the full two weeks for it to come in so he proposed without the ring and then we went out to a fancy dinner the night the ring came in.

Totally fine to propose with wrong size. My fiancé did and it was no big deal 😊 I bought a ring Snuggie from Amazon so I could enjoy it for a tad and then sent it in to resize 😂 He also proposed the day next Christmas and it was lovely.

Definitely propose with the wrong size! It’s better to go after she has it so it can be sized specifically to her finger instead of a number on a chart!!

If it is too big , getting something like a ‘ring snuggy’ or temporary plastic size adjuster is a great idea so she’ll actually be able to wear it and show it off til sizing without worrying about it falling off OP! Great Christmas present ! 🤣

I agree that it is perfectly ok to propose with a ring that is too big. I had to take my ring in the following day to get resized because it was falling off my finger. The only downside was that I had to wait a week for it to be completed. Since you are planning to propose on Xmas I would bet she will want to wear it for a little bit to show off to friends and family before getting it sized. Might be a good idea to get a ring Snuggie like Nora mentioned or some sizing beads to hold it in place until after the holidays.
    Oh and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I’m actually glad my fiancé proposed with the standard size 7 he could get at the store. Turns out, if he’d had it resized to the 6.5 we measured almost a year ago; it would still have been too big. I had to part with it for a couple weeks which was kind of sad, but at least it’s the right size 6 now! If you got her ring size a while ago, it’s probably better to wait and have her measured again.

My FH didn’t know my ring size so he just got a standard size to propose with. It ended up being too small, so we went to get it resizes afterwards. I was fine with that. But you know her best and how she would feel if it doesn’t fit right away. 😁

Just propose and then get it resized. My fiancé proposed with a size 5 which I thought I was but turns out I’m a 4.

My FW proposed with a ring from her mother knowing it would need to be resized. She literally proposed, we had a moment, and then walked over the jeweler and dropped it off to be resized. She won't care that the size is off.

My ring was too big when my H proposed at the beginning of a trip to NYC. I will say it was slightly nerve wracking to walk around with a too-big ring for a week (was worried it would slip off if I wasn’t careful), but it was special nonetheless.
Proposals don’t need to be technically perfect to be perfect.
I say move forward with your plans!

My fiancé completely surprised me. We hadn’t talked about rings at all, so he guessed and the ring was way too small, lol (it fit on my pinky). Anyway, it didn’t matter, I was so happy and it was really easy to get it resized afterward. I would go ahead and use it as is, she won’t mind at all!

My fiance couldn't get my ring in my size in time for the proposal (our anniversary). So he proposed with the wrong size ring. I still cried, I still wore it to our anniversary/engagement dinner, and showed it off to everyone who cared to see it (or maybe some that didn't) even though I had to wear it on my pinky. When we took it to the jewelry store the next day to be resized, I didn't want to hand it over. lol. As long as the emotions and a good set up are all there, the size of the ring means very little in my opinion.

It's absolutely okay to propose eith thr wrong size. My FH didnt know what size my finger was and asked my parents (they guessed a size too big) I wore a ring guard because I freaking love it until we could take it to the jeweler to get it resized.
