Prepping skin for wedding makeup

Amanda, on August 21, 2017 at 10:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hello,

I had a makeup trial this weekend that went very well in terms of clicking with the MUA and how the makeup looked. We finished around 12noon and I wore it until around 6pm. The foundation was airbrush. I went to a BBQ so I was out in the sun, etc. I got home around 5pm and I noticed the skin around my mouth and chin was looking very dry, and the make up was flaking off. It looked like I had remnants of a powdered sugar donut on my face. I've already reached out to my MUA to get her suggestions but was wondering if anyone else could provide any input on how to prep my face to avoid this on my wedding day. I already moisturize morning and night but maybe I need more. I don't wear a lot of foundation everyday - just tinted sunscreen.

Thanks in advance! Have a great week, everyone.

The only time I notice it's a little better is when I use my exfoliating brush, if you don't have dry skin all the time maybe just try the exfoliating before the makeup?

But yes please let me know! I get so frustrated sometimes lol

Exfoliating helps alot and keep it moisturized before you get your makeup done

Thanks for tips to exfoliate - I have a clarisonic brush that I don't really use more than 1x week or every 2 weeks. I will try stepping that up.

Water TONS of water. I have said it before - I am obsessed with the whole K beauty routine. I started it out about 6 months before my wedding and have never looked back. I never got comments about my skin until I started trying to take care of it. Here is some of the products I use:

    1. Face Shop - Rice Water Cleansing oil to wipe off all my make up. 2. Too Cool for school - Foam wash (yes i basically wash my face twice) 3. Belief Toner 4. Skin Food Sake Emulsion 5 .Too Cool for School Egg Cream 6. Sunscreen during the day / Tony Moly- Sleeping pack at night. I exfoliate every other day or three (Skinfood black sugar mask) and use sheet masks all the time. I repeat the steps every morning and every night!

Yes I would include the clarisonic in your routine leading up to the wedding. Start off slow a couple times a week though since you aren't use to using it more frequently, don't want your skin to become irritated. I also get dry patches around my mouth and since I use my clairisonic almost everyday now it has helped.

I also suggest adding hydrating face masks here and there. Wether you choose sheet masks or masks you rub on that's up to you.

I wouldn't do anything too drastic to your skin like peels an such since you're close to your wedding date.

My skin used to do this--it was incredibly dry. I switched up my skincare completely: a heavier duty moisturizer (w/ sunscreen in the morning), an exfoliating peel once/week, and moisturizing face masks 2-3x per week.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest an appointment with a dermatologist to help you come up with a good skincare regimen.

Cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face twice a day.

Exfoliate twice a week. Use a mask once or twice a week as well.

Thanks everyone! I heard back from my MUA and she echos your recommendations. Basically I need to moisturize, exfoliate, and then moisturize some more. I'll be using the following routine for the next couple weeks. Wish me luck!

    Everyday:

    1. Remove makeup/general cleansing with sweet almond and jojoba oils. I started using the oil cleansing method a few years ago and my skin received it very well. Though I've recently switched my shower routine to the evenings and have gotten lazy about it, choosing mostly to wash my face with dove soap in the shower. NO MORE.

    2. Tone with witch hazel

    3. Eye cream

    4. All over moisture rich night cream

    Twice a week:

    1. Exfoliate with Clarisonic

    2. Moisture rich mud mask

Wish me luck! I'll be sure to mention how my skin fared in my BAM or earlier if there are any super dramatic results.

I have dry skin around my nose and mouth, but I use an exfoliating brush twice a week and a hydrating face mask or peel twice a week. It's helped tremendously.

I recommend using an exfoliating brush the night before your wedding and a non-alcoholic toner immediately after so you don't dry your skin out too much. Have a night time moisturizer handy!
