Premarital Counseling

April, on February 28, 2020 at 7:25 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
Hi All,
I want to get you alls thoughts on premarital counseling. My Fiancée and I are currently seeking counseling. We are learning a great deal about things we did not think much about it. My counselor even gave us the homework to read The Five Love Languages (Gary Chapman) a must read.

We have been doing a 12 week class through our church. I thought ya was silly as we already have children together and live together. It has been amazing. Like you said we are learning about things we never thought off. They also suggested The 5 love languages to us also. They also offer another class called love and respect that I think we are going to take when we finish.

That is great! I personally think you can never have too many tools for your marriage.

An previous pastor of mine is officiating our wedding and requires it for him to agree to officiate. Even if he didn’t require it, I think we would still participate in sessions. He’s having us work on the “Marriage Inventory” and it’s been super beneficial already. Five Love Languages is always a good one!

We went to our fist session yesterday. Just from the one session I can tell it will be beneficial as long as we remain open minded. We already have homework too. I'm kind of excited to see where it takes us.

Unfortunately I dont feel our counseling sessions have been super beneficial. We have a book & a workbook “Saving your marriage for it starts” and the book is a little more insightful but the workbook exercises are kinda meh to me. We also had to take an assessment test called SYMBIS (which stands for the title of the book)

My FH and I have gone through it and it was awesome! We went through the Love Languages book as well and it was fantastic! We also went through Danny Silk’s video series on relationships and that was fantastic!

Awesome! I’d like to try to find an online one if anyone had suggestions on one that worked for them. I think this is a good tradition to keep going!
