Prelude music: okay to skip?

FH and I are thinking about skipping the prelude music. We're having our DJ play the music and we are using just normal songs with vocals during the ceremony. Neither of us could find a set of songs that we like for prelude music, so can we just skip it? It's outdoors in a city so it's not like a dead silent hall or anything. There will be white noise from the city. Anyone have strong opinions?

I don't think it's necessary. I wasn't sure either I'm going to be in the woods. Plus there's more of a chance of people getting instantly quiet when it starts

I don't imagine music would be required. It is certainly helpful to use music to set the mood and signal change, but people are generally already excited at a wedding. There should be no problem with any choice you make to play music early or not. Happy planning!
