Just Said Yes March 2020

Pregnant photographer

Hey.

I booked my photographer at the end of October. My wedding is March 21st.
She just wrote me to let me know that she is scheduled to be induced the week of my wedding. I didn't know she was pregnant and especially not due around my wedding. If so, I would have asked the back up plan. Instead she waits until 30 days before my wedding to tell me. She did present an alternative photographer but I truly dislike the alternative. So much.
I let her know I did not mesh with the other photographer style. She said she understood and would look into someone else. When I asked if I could make a post as well for anyone available on my date to share albums. She said she would just ask to be induced later.
I get that is her choice....but at this point I am way to nervous now. I do not like the back up option and would rather find a new photographer. Last year, she cancelled our engagement shoot and so I gave the dates we were available for the following month. She never responded to that and I got busy with christmas and finishing up my masters program that I am rushing to get through before the wedding. So I haven't even gotten that.
I feel like she should have responded or tried to reach put about my engagement shoot as well as let me know she was pregnant so close to my wedding so we could have discussed the back up then so I could have made a fully informed decision.
I'm so frustrated right now. What are your guys opinions and thoughts on things. What do I do at this point? There was a contract signed in October and she was fully paid at that time. She said it had to be fully payment because it was a deal price instead of regular.

I feel like her canceling the first time was a red flag. It’s terrible that you’re going through this. I’d be way too scared that her water would break during my day. Is she refunding you ? She needs to. If not you’d definitely win in court. I’d download the thumbtack app and find another photographer on there ASAP.

She isn't yet. I'm trying. Hoping.
The contract says I cant hired a second photographer unless through her. So I am even scared to look for another photographer because of that chance at losing in court.
Also....I am down on funds because of my masters classes and wedding prep so far. I have one paycheck left between now and the wedding and between bills and the catering payment....I dont even have money for another photographer unless she refunds like now...eek! Smiley sad

Find the photographer and tell her this is the person you want to use and it’s only fair since she neglected to tell you she was pregnant knowing that she could possibly give birth around the time of your wedding. She withheld pertinent information that would have caused you to otherwise choose someone who would be more reliable. And she did so knowingly. Tell her the least she could so is allow you to choose the photographer so close you your date. Also try the app you may find someone for a very good price.

My photographer’s wife ended up getting pregnant and their due date is my wedding date! It’s a husband/wife team, so they ended up letting me know a few months ago and refunding my deposit so I could find a new photographer.

I would read that contract over very carefully to see how you guys are protected. My photographer found out she was pregnant 9 months before our wedding date and told us the minute she knew. She also already had a backup photographer for us to look at their work since she will be unable to shoot our wedding. Not only that but she had another photographer on standby in case we didn't like the style of the one which we didn't so we went for the new one. She even set up a meeting so we can meet our new photographer and get everyone on the same page. My photographer was very professional about it.

Oh no! I'm sorry. This is one of my fears. A little while after booking my photographer, she announced she was pregnant on social media. I immediately panicked, but her due date was around 2 months after my wedding so it should be fine. I hope you can find a solution that will work for you !

You all are making me want to go find my photographer on social media now. Glad most people’s photographers were professional about it! I agree that you should select the person and then work from there. Life happens but being induced (or really May delivery) within the few weeks of a wedding should require her to cancel the contract or find a replacement. I get she might still be able to physically do the wedding, but who knows how the delivery will go and if she’s up to working. Also, what if she goes early? If you haven’t even gotten the engagement shoot and that was part of your package then she’s already probably in breach of your contract. I would find someone new ASAP and then ask your money back unless she agrees to subcontract the new photographer you’ve chosen.

First of all, this was very unprofessional of her. Second of all, read your contract and see if it says anything about her not being able to fulfill her duties. Depending on what that says, she needs to provide an alternate photographer that works for you. You could sue depending on the language of the contract.

She should obviously give you back all of your money if she can't shoot your wedding. If she is a reputable photographer she should know other photographer that should help.

One of my good friends was shooting wedding up to the weekend she gave birth, but what she did was she hired a second shooter that the brides liked and the second shooter was going to take over as the lead if she had the baby early.
