Pregnant MOH?

Julie, on October 21, 2016 at 1:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

Hi all! My MOH could potentially be up to five months preggers at my wedding in June. We were told to order the dresses in December, and she is concerned about not knowing what size to get, etc. She is generally a petite person, but just doesn't know if/how far along she'll be in June. Wanted to see if anyone had any tips on this? Do places let you potentially get two different sizes and return one at a date closer to the wedding? Ideas here? Thanks!

Find out what the actual order time from your store is. Pick a silhouette that is empire waist and more flowy. See if anyone carries maternity gowns.

Will likely be this one. We're doing mix and match and they have a few options.

Some stores have maternity BM dresses. Look into that. Get something that is flowy. The sales people should be able to help as well. One of my BMs was almost 6 months pregnant when we tried on dresses and they knew exactly what to do. Also, we picked a flowy dresses and we were like you don't look pregnant in that dress.

If it's an experienced bridal shop that you are dealing with. They should know what to do/recommend. My BM just went through this and gave her a ton of options. Said she was there for 45 min talking with a consultant. We went through Bella Bridesmaids.

The only way to make sure it will work is to have a flowy/empire waisted dress. Your choice makes me a little concerned because of the fitted middle. You just never know how a pregnancy will carry or how much you will show. A short dress is kind of a risk because if she happens to have a good sized bump it could bring the dress front into indecent exposure territory

Yeah that dress won't be comfortable even if she isn't that big. I hated having anything around my waist when I was pregnant and I didn't start showing until I was 28 weeks.

ETA: Also, I would have thrown a boob in that dress. My boobs went from a DD to a G in the first couple of months of pregnancy.

At David's bridal they had a bump that they put on my friend so we could see how the dress would look on her in 6 months. It was perfect and we got the right length and everything!

I don't think you need to get it 6 months in advance but check with the store you plan on using. It took me 4 weeks to get my bridesmaid dress last time I was in a wedding. Maybe you can do it 2-3 months before. Also maybe you can consider letting her wear a dress she picks out in the color you choose. Then she can pick out something that will give her more room and that she feels comfortable in.

I don't understand. She is not pregnant now? You're anticipating a pregnancy? Because she'd be eight months pregnant at your June wedding if she is pregnant now, right?

Are you asking that they wear long or short? My pregnant bridesmaid picked this dress. (They're choosing their own style in the color we've requested.)

ETA: She says this is really comfy. And also picked it out not sure if she would be pregnant or not.

@Stephanie, Ummm- That's kind of ridiculous, not all women carry the same way. I didn't show until the end of my pregnancy. At 6 months you wouldn't have known I was pregnant, I was still wearing all my own clothes. I wore all my own clothes through my whole pregnancy until I hit 35 weeks, then I succumbed to maternity pants.

This post makes no sense? Is your currently trying to get pregnant because your dates aren't matching up?

Then you are worrying too much in advance. There is a chance she will not be pregnant or will not get pregnant right away.

Let her pick her own dress and then it is her concern. She can pick something that can work if she is pregnant or not.

I think it's too soon to be worried about dress sizes right now if she's just trying to get pregnant. You have a while yet to order bridesmaid dresses.

But, if she does get pregnant soon, David's Bridal will let you exchange a dress for a different size. When I was a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding, I was loosing a lot of weight during the whole wedding planning. I had to exchange my dress at DB twice from originally a size 10, to 8, then to a 6. Also, they are pretty quick with orders, just make sure there's enough time for alterations.

My MOH will be 8 months pregnant at my wedding. She is buying a maternity dress that is flexible for any size. Azazie has great maternity bridesmaid dresses!

Just a suggestion...I happen to know that that designer has the same style in a long version (one of my bridesmaids chose that neckline). Why not just have her get the long version and have it shortened through alterations. That's the part that will change the most.

My sister had a very pregnant bridesmaid and got an empire waist dress that was flowy for all of us to wear. It worked well for that bridesmaid. If you are having mix and match dresses, I'm sure it will be easy for her to find one. Also the MOH doesn't really have to match all the other bridesmaids, so she could do another dress that she is comfortable in.

While it's nice of you to worry about making sure she's comfortable, she isn't pregnant yet. Once it's "official" and the time comes to go dress shopping I'm sure the bridal consultant has been through this a time or two, so they'll have good insight and recommendations.
