Pregnant Matron of Honor

Becky, on October 25, 2018 at 3:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
A few months ago my bridal party and I all went out and bought all of our dresses at our local bridal shop. A few weeks ago my sister/Matron of Honor just found out she is pregnant. When the wedding day arrives ahes going to be 5 months. It not very far along but she has been gaining more weight. In order for her dress to be fitted to her pregnancy belly it would end up costing more than the dress itself. Also its a beautiful dress that can be worn more than once and we wouldnt want it to be strictly fitted to only a pregnant person. I don't want her to not be apart of my bridal party but we are stuck at a crossroads and dont know what to do! Any ideas?

Is there a way to possible exchange her dress for maybe an empire waist one in the same color? That way it can suit her belly at any size?

The bridal shop has a strict no returns policy once purchased.

I agree with this comment. My matron of honor found out she was pregnant (and waited to tell me), soon after accepting the role. She went out and tried the dress style with a pregnancy belly on. That way she got a great idea of how it would look and whether she would be comfortable.

Can you get her a different dress? Since she’s your MOH, it wouldn’t be weird for her to look different or stand out from the rest of your bridal party!

What about an exchange though? That's not her just returning the dress, she's buying another.

I would go to the dress shop and just let them know that you want to exchange the dress and not return it fully. Or put that towards a maternity style or a flowy styled dress instead.

Just let her get a dress that fits and coordinates with the others shortly before the wedding. Don't over think it

Couldn’t she just pick a different, but coordinating dress and then try to sell the dress she currently has so she can make some of her money back?

Agree with this. You could easily sell it on FB Marketplace depending on color

    Second this.

Also it never hurts to at least ask the store. Lots of ladies on this forum have had luck exchanging an unaltered dress to places with strict 'no return or exchange' places

I’d say try and sell the dress online and buy a different but coordinated dress to the rest of the BMs. You could try and look for something cost effective to offset some of the cost she already put into the original dress.

Can she buy a different dress, that's still similar?

There's nothing that you can do concerning the dress. Just sell it online so she can get that money back. I'd suggest her trying Azazie for her new dress.

My thoughts exactly. If it's a regular, nice dress there's a market out there for it. There's plenty of places out there where you can get a new, affordable dress (like Azazie) to accommodate her particular needs. As your MOH, if she looks a little bit different than everyone else, it's not going to look out of place. For what it's worth, TWO of my bridesmaids found out they were pregnant during the planning of my wedding. One with twins! They both ended up sticking with the original dresses they had picked - only one of them had theirs altered a little bit. One of the girls almost had to get a new dress and was going to sell hers like I suggested. If our wedding was this weekend instead of last - she would have had to! But it worked and it was beautiful.
