Pregnancy after paying for alterations

Caitlin, on August 14, 2019 at 12:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Hi all

Well -- we're the crazy .1% that got pregnant on the pill. Definitely a surprise. Still waiting on blood tests to determine how far along I am (it really couldn't be more than a few weeks, I don't think), but I'm really concerned because I JUST had my alterations started a week ago. My dress is a mermaid style. It's a lace material, so it's not super silky or anything that would show flaws. But I had the dress taken in and if I gain a pound it's not going to fit. We get married in 74 days...this is my first pregnancy. I just am trying to figure out if I'm going to be showing or what I should do about this dress...I love it and I really don't want to have to find a new dress at this point.

Help!

74 days is a LOT in a pregnancy. You'd be nearing 12 weeks if you just got pregnant. You're likely going to have the bump by then.
You are probably going to have to consider an A line style dress. Some people don't show and some show a lot there's no way to predict it.

Is it corset or can you get a corset added? Then it can be more loosely lace depending on how big or not big your baby bump is Smiley smile

If you just found out you’re pregnant you’ll probably be about 13 or 14 weeks at the wedding. Most of my friends didn’t showing until 15 or after with their first but everyone’s body is different. I would add a corset or get a back up dress just in case.

I know you said they just started your alterations, but do you think there's any chance they haven't started taking in the stomach area? I'm not really sure if a mermaid style will work well with that point in pregnancy, but it might be worth it to at least call the alterations shop and see how far they are and if they can put it on hold. Especially if you end up having to get a new dress, it would suck to have to pay for alterations you won't need too.

My dress is kind of mermaid style but it has a corset back so that would help with the tummy. The problem is that you are likely to gain weight in other areas too. I can't gain any in my hips or the dress won't fit. Can you do the alterations closer to your wedding day?
