Prednisone 20mg for wedding?

Payge, on July 31, 2018 at 4:08 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 9
I have 10 days until I get married, feel like garbage struggling with fibromyalgia, a slough of conditions and a mystery auto-immune disease. My rheumatologist prescribed me Prednisone 20mg, (& taper by 5mg every 7 days until I'm off it again), as my long term care med isn't working yet & I don't want to feel like garbage and/or not be able to walk down the isle without sit breaks... NOW!, I must ask when should I start it? 15mg isn't helpful & hasn't been in the past. I'm thinking starting it the day of, or day before, as I don't want to not feel great nor do I want to blow up like a balloon and not fit my size 6 dress! Helpppp! Any suggestions? Smiley smile

This may be something you should ask your doctor about

Well, yes he made the follow up appt with me before the wedding day to give me something like this if I wasn't responding to the new stuff yet, but have you been on Prednisone before? (Not for like bronchitis or allergies, but for like autoimmune disease?)

I was put on Prednisone a week before my wedding and I had no issues at all. I still fit into my dress perfectly. It could affect you differently though. I have taken it in the past too and found that as long as I was only on it a week or two I did not gain any weight.

I would start it right away. I am currently on a prednisone taper for an autoimmune condition so i get it But during a flare up a feel like CRAP so i would be more worried about feeling better. Eat well drink lots of water.

I would call your doctor and ask even prior to your appointment. Everyone is SO different that I would assume you'd respond differently to the 5 mg increase than everyone else on this forum. Good luck!

I’m a pharmacist and because your taper is relatively short term, you shouldn’t experience the issues that long term users do. Drink a lot of water and watch what you’re eating and you won’t see major weight fluctuations. Good luck and have a wonderful wedding!!

My FH has done this many times for his Crohn’s disease. It’s a short term taper so as long as you follow your doctors instructions and eat well and drink a lot of water when you’re on it you should be okay. But again everyone reacts differently. Definitely consult with your doctor. He May also recommend taking 20mg for 2-3 days and then stRting to taper so it builds in your system first

OUCH! I am sorry. Prednisone is no joke as far as the side effects. But I agree with PP, in that you should take it as your doc recommends. You do have an advantage, in that you know how it effects you, so you can actively try to encumber those side effects. I know it is not going to be fun, but keep focusing on how much better you will feel physically on your wedding day. Focus on the positive to get through the next 10 days.
