Potted Plant Centerpieces/favors

Lalaluna, on November 18, 2017 at 9:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hi! We just found out from our venue we can do long tables which I love the aesthetic of, however I'm worried about decorating them affordably. I was thinking about doing potted plants as centerpieces. Has anyone done small potted plants? I even briefly looked into buying flats of whatever colorful flowers are available at the time and dividing them into small pre-decorated flower pots a few days before the event. Then I realized it's gonna be like 100-120 pots! There is no way I could transport that on top of everything else to bring to the venue lol. If anyone has made a scenario Work I'd love to hear about what you did! I don't want to make more stressful work for ourselves. But our budget is tight so we know we have to get creative!

My sister gave out seeds. and small, ready to pot, plants.

I feel like most of them probably went unused or died.

I went to a wedding where potted plants were used as favors- super cute idea, but most of them were left behind and some were knocked over so there was a little soil on the tables Smiley sad

My main focus is definitely making sure the tables are decorated nicely. The other pro would be being able to use them as favors too. However my biggest concern is definitely that the long tables for 100-120 guests are decorated nicely and affordably!

What about some simple greenery with either candles or loose flowers spaced throughout? I love this look.

Didn't realize that picture was so large, was looking at the top piece. And I know these aren't potted, but an affordable option for long tables.

You can have potted plant centerpieces that do double duty as favors. It's called a breakaway centerpiece. You would have to make arrangements with a supplier ahead of time, whether that is a local greenhouse grower or a retailer. You can use flowering plants or pots of herbs.

Alternatively, you could use potted plants but not have one for every guest. As the pp said, not everyone wants one anyhow. Lowes , Home Depot and Ikea often sell orchids for $10. You can also use ferns which are reasonably priced and add some votives.

You can have a method planned to determine who gets a plant (often a tag under their chair or coffee cup).

I second potted orchids. You can get beautiful ones for under $10/plant and put candles or whatever in between. Because they tend to be large statement plants you won't need much else and it'll still feel elegant
