Postponing

He's committed, I'm committed, but he's intimidated at the idea of tying the knot within a year from now. Finances are a big part of it. For now, we're moving our wedding date from 09/09/2021 to 08/19/2022. We may even change it again. Who knows. We need to take our time. Anyone else had to deal with a similar situation?

What do you mean by finances? Saving up for the wedding or personal financial success?

I haven’t personally but a close friend of mine has! It took a long time for them to get engaged at all, and then they had a two year engagement. Other things, like buying a house, came first and took priority. The important thing is that you two have good communication and are on the same page with things as much as possible.

As long as you are on the same page that you do eventually want to get married, it's OK! A long engagement is perfectly OK if you have other priorities. My fiancé and I will be engaged for 2.5 years by the time of our wedding; we're committed, but not rushing.

As long as y'all stay in the same page about it, it won't be an issue.

According to Dave Ramsey, the financial guru, this is NOT a good reason to put off marrying someone.

We only postponed twice and both times do to capacity mandates even with our small wedding of 40. It makes you feel defeated and angry but here we are 11 days out. Finish line in sight. Thank god because we’re both ready to be done and move on

How about having a very intimate wedding. That way you won't be spending too much money on the party but you'll still be married (yay). And life finances . . that'll happen whether you're married or not.
