Postponing the wedding :(

Kerlee10, on February 9, 2017 at 9:27 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

So we made a tough decision this week to postpone the wedding. I'm sad, but I know it's the right decision. Finances were a part of our decision as well as the fact that I have 2 children graduating in May ( one from college and one from high school) and I feel like I wasn't able to focus enough on them OR the wedding. I felt like everything was starting to get "half-assed". We haven't set a new date yet, but where do I start with letting people know? I sent save the dates a long time ago. I have meetings next week with vendors....hopefully they can transfer deposits to a new date. Just looking for advice or opinions if anyone has been here before.

Call your immediate family and let them know first. Then branch out from there- extended, friends, etc.

I'm sorry you have to postpone!

Im sorry you had to postpone your wedding, but based on your reasoning it seems like the best decision given the circumstances. Kudos to you for not wanting to compromise your mom hat with your bride hat. Wishing them both a happy graduation.

As for you, there is no best way to let your guest know that you are postponing the wedding 3 months before the wedding date. But here are some ways- mail out letters/postcards letting people know that the wedding is postponed (stay away from including the reasons why), send out text messages, send out emails, make a Facebook post, call people and let them know, or include it in your wedding website (assuming you have one).

As for your vendors, most of them are likely to transfer your deposit to your new date. They want to know what your new date is so that they can check if they are available to rebook you. Make sure you get a revised contract with the new date.

Happy planning, and don't be sad so many people have to postpone for sad/negative reasons like illness, death, couple issues, thank God your reasons are happy- your kids graduation Smiley smile
