Postponing January 2021 weddings ?

Hilary, on June 20, 2020 at 11:21 PM Posted in Community Conversations 2 19
I am starting to worry that I will have to postpone my January 2021 wedding due to Covid. I live in Florida. Thoughts?

It’s hard to tell anything at all to be honest. Nothing is a guarantee when it comes to this pandemic.
Does your venue say anything about postponing or cancelling

It's a little early to postpone, though it never hurts to ask your venue if they can put a soft hold on a new date just in case. That way, if you find you need to postpone when time gets closer, you already have a backup plan ready to go.

Oh wow. I think it’s definitely too soon to even think about that. And Florida seems to be one of the states thats the most open. But I think you will be able to have it, mine is in August and we havent moved it

With this unpredictable pandemic and 6 months until your wedding, I’d at least have a solid Plan B in mind. I mean, 6 months ago, none of us 2020 brides expected to postpone. But here I am... an October 2020 bride turned October 2021 bride 🤷🏽‍♀️. It’s never too early go be prepared.

Yes!!! It’s just giving me so much anxiety! I’m going to reach out to my venue and some vendors today and see what they have to say. I know they had to re schedule other weddings so it shouldn’t be a problem if we need to.. hopefully by January.. it will be mostly ok... I just want to get married darnit!! Lol

I’m with you. I have a late January 2021 wedding in Puerto Rico, so some of my guests will have to travel. I’m very anxious and waiting to see how the upcoming months unfold. We booked every vendor and paid all deposits; which are non refundable if you cancel. That being said postponing it is the only choice because we have so much money invested at this point. We will make a decision sometime around the fall. As of right now the venue and our wedding planner are advising us to wait. The main issue is that all the postponed weddings from 2020 are now rescheduled for 2021, so there are not many dates available unless you settle for a weekday or Sunday. For us waiting to 2022 isn’t an option. Ultimately you’ll have to choose what seems like the best option for you and your fiancé. Some guests will be dying to go to a wedding by then and some will still not be comfortable. Everyone will do what’s best for them and it’s very hard to control that. Good luck and I hope you still have the wedding you dreamed of!

Exactly! It’s all so nuts.... so we pushed it out as far as possible to avoid a second postponement. Our DJ allowed postponing up to a year from the original date so that’s how we selected 10/2/21. But, I would actually be fine with November or December 2021, even if it means losing the DJs deposit and rebooking him again (it’s worth it). But for now we’ve got 10/2/21 and next month I need to send our “change the date” cards. So by then we will make a final final decision on the date. Thankfully our vendors are all holding 10/2/21 until then.

I'm a January 2021 bride as well. I live in Florida, but I'm getting married in New Orleans. I've had the same thoughts, but I'm holding out for now. It's too early to tell and things keep changing so much day to day. We've secured all our vendors, and during my recent conversations with them, they have advised to wait until the fall to make any final decision about postponing. In the meantime, I have held off on sending the save the dates (as I don't want to send them and later tell people we cannot invite them should we need to cut them from the guest list) and reviewed our original plans and made some modifications such as (1) reduced our guest list from 280 to 180 (or 50% capacity of our venue); (2) changed our reception from action stations to a plated meal; (3) changed the ceremony and reception floor plans to account for social distancing as much as possible; and (4) budgeted to provide cloth face masks for our wedding guests. Hang in there. We're in this together!

You are very prepared! My wedding is about 60-70 people.. I would be very happy with about 50! Lol
I’m just hoping things start to get a bit better. My fiancé joked that we can just get married in Vegas in November when we go and normally I would have kinda laughed but it actually made
Me sad for some reason.Thank you for your response. You are lovely.❤️

    Hi Hilary,

I agree with the recommendations above! I think it is too soon to think about postponing your big day. However, I'd definitely reach out to your venue to start talking through your options and what plan b could look like so you're ready to go if you do need to change your plans.

Keep us posted on what you end up deciding.

Sending so much love your way!

    Smiley heart

Thank you Brenda!! Your post really made me feel less anxious. I did reach out to my venue and they will work with me if I need to change a date to a different day. I really want to keep my date. My fiancé and I both are just trying to be positive. I have been doing some reading and basically the majority is that life does need to go on... so I’m thinking I will stick with my date and if there are less people... that just means more time to be with the ones who chose to come! Smiley smile

I was so glad when I saw your post. I’m not alone on the feeling. Waiting is the best. Plus postponing for a few months may not make that much different. Positive vibes ❤️
