Postponing Honeymoon

My fiancé and I are thinking we might postpone our honeymoon until the February after our wedding, wedding is in August 2015. We live in a summer destination in Canada (40 Degrees ) and would both take off a week before the wedding from work, due to guests travelling from Asia, England and all over the U.S and Canada. We don't want to push our luck with time off and feel silly going to ' a beach destination' in the summer. Also, we would have the option of a romantic ski holiday in February. I'll have a lot of friends and family flying to the wedding and want to be able to spend the week before with them. I know some couples who have done this...I just wonder if I'll regret it. Will it still feel like a honeymoon, 6 months later?

I was going to postpone it and im glad i didnt. i think there is something really special about going off right after the wedding. but im not in your situation where people are coming from all over to attend the wedding. so i think it would be worth it to stay and visit, maybe have a brunch the next day to see everyone. then you can have the honeymoon you want!

We're getting married in September and I can't take off time until Christmas so we will probably postpone until the new year. Maybe even until the ski season is mostly done. I don't want to be in the tropics and checking the pow pow report.

I'm kind of excited to have something left to look forward too. I think we'll have a mini moon or something in between.

FH and I get married August 22nd 2015 but won't take our honeymoon until the first week of October. We're waiting because that's when our kiddos have fall break and we can leave them with their aunts and they won't have to deal with getting them to school. I think it will still be special to us because we never get to take trips without the kids.

We took our honeymoon ~3 months AFTER our wedding. We were married in March and went on honeymoon in June. We do NOT regret it. It still felt like a honeymoon to us because is was a romantic trip with just the two of us.

    Our reasoning:

    - The weather in the spring in our area is fantastic. But the summers are HOT. Surface of the sun HOT. So we elected to take a HM to a cooler destination.

    - In addition to the wedding festivities, we were in the process of finishing renovations on and selling DH's house. Between the wedding, work, and the house... madness! Having time after the wedding to get a little bit of "normal" back was important.

    - We had a lot of family travelling in from out of town and wanted to take time to spend with them as it is not often that so many family members are all in the same place.

    - Due to my DH's job, it just was not possible to get enough time off right after the wedding as our wedding was in the middle of the busy season for his industry. He had ~4 days off around the wedding and that was about at the limit. The summer, however? NOT the busy season. He is usually required to take time off in the summer.

If you can't take a honeymoon right away maybe take a long weekend just to get away right after the wedding.

We are taking our honeymoon right after the wedding. I am taking off an entire month from work (I already have the vacation time saved up) and am really looking forward to spending our first 3 weeks of married life on a honeymoon road trip adventure. For us, it just works out since we are having a destination wedding out west and will be doing more traveling out there.

But lots of people postpone by some time.

We are not going on a honeymoon due to financial reasons and also I am unable to take time off work (and my fiance's time would be unpaid if he were to take time off). So, we are thinking we will do one for our 1st anniversary the following year or maybe like... 5th anniversary lol. I am kind of bummed about it, but at the same time, it is what it is. I am really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed after the wedding is over... Might sound silly but I never like sleeping in other beds - hotels, other people's houses, etc - I want MINE. Smiley smile

I noticed a lot of hotels and resorts only allow Honeymoon Packages to be applied within 1 - 3 months of your wedding date... hmm that's not fun

We are taking our Honeymoon the August after the wedding, 10 months later. There is a specific cruise we want to go on and it's only offered during certain times of the year. We are actually going to Disney with my family for my mom's 60th birthday BEFORE we go on our honeymoon.

Different timelines work for different brides. If waiting is best for you, I say go for it. Smiley smile

We're kind of in the same boat as you. We live in Massachusetts and are getting married in May, right when it's starting to get nice up here. We want to honeymoon somewhere tropical, and don't think it makes much sense to go in the summer.

What we decided was to take a mini-moon - a few days off right after the wedding - and we're actually heading up your way (Niagara Falls). Then when the weather gets colder we'll take our long honeymoon somewhere in the Caribbean. That way we'll still get a nice vacation, just us, right after the wedding.

I agree with DFG - going right after the wedding was very special to us. I would recommend at least a mini-moon to spend some time with your new husband and relax after the wedding.

We're postponing ours. Vacation time will be all used up, no money left after the wedding, etc. We think we'll go to celebrate 1 year married. It will still be special, plus I look forward to having something to plan for us next year

Going right after the wedding isn't really an option for us. we are getting married in march and are planning to take our honeymoon in november. for where we are going, i think november is a better time to travel there also.

we are planning on having a little minimoon though right after the wedding since we aren't going on our honeymoon right away. it's not going to be anything big or fancy, but we will probably spend a couple nights at a hill country resort near where we are getting married. just to relax and enjoy each others company before it's back to reality.

i really don't feel like i'm going to regret it because by waiting we are able to save more for our honeymoon and our honeymoon is going to be the most epic vacation we have ever taken because of being able to save a little extra for it. so, whatevs.

I think a lot of people postpone now-a-days. We were going to postpone due to finances but instead we took a "mini-moon" just down to our local beach for the week. It was nice and I'm so glad we did it. It would have been weird going back to work right away and it was nice to have the alone time!

We're taking a short trip away for a week after but our large honeymoon will be in December.

We are also considering postponing the honeymoon. We want to be able to save up money after the wedding to take a big trip of a lifetime. I also have limited vacation that I don't want to use all at once around the wedding. We will probably take as many days off of work as we can manage and enjoy a stay-cation. Living in a tourist beach city already allows us to spend quality time together right afterwards and still save up money for a bigger trip the summer after/for our 1st anniversary.

We decided though to have all plans made or have taken the trip before our anniversary because the later you wait to plan and take it, the harder it is to actually take. Life gets in the way. Other things come along and the big dream trip becomes harder and harder to take.
