Postponing from 10/1/21 to 7/1/22

Hi all!

I know many of us had to move our dates whether it was COVID related or not. Luckily I didn’t get THAT far into planning before postponing. We had a venue, photographer, photo booth rental, and wedding planner hired. All were happy to move my date except the venue. They are the only ones having us pay a fee to move but I think it will be worth it. We live in TX and the majority of my fiancé’s family lives in New York. We want to be able to celebrate all the pre-wedding events with them but it looks like we won’t even be able to travel to NY for Christmas this year. We chose to postpone in hopes of being able to celebrate with everyone properly and that traveling won’t be as restrictive. It’s been my dream to have the full wedding experience so my fiancé and I agreed that waiting would be worth it. If you postponed what are any challenges or surprises you’ve come across? I haven’t sent any save the dates or announced anything other than my engagement.

We postponed from July 2020 to July 2022. I think the biggest challenge for us was getting the word out quickly, since we made the decision to postpone 6 weeks prior to our original date. We had to rush to send out postponement announcements to everyone, since many of them are my fiance's family who we don't see or talk to often. In addition to the announcements we mailed, we also had to call/text/rely on word of mouth to make sure our guests knew to cancel their travel plans. Otherwise, we got extremely lucky that it was surprisingly easy for us to postpone. All of our vendors were on board, and since we postponed 2 years out, vendor availability wasn't an issue.

Wow! Yeah I’d imagine having to postpone so close to your date would be hard. I’m happy you were able to make it work! I’m sure our weddings will be wonderful no matter when they take place. Wishing you the best with planning!

We postpone from November 2020 to November 2021. Unlike most brides however, I didn’t wait till close to my date to Postpone. We changed our date at the beginning of May, as soon as it became apparent this virus wasn’t going anywhere. The only challenge I encountered was our cake baker- she was the only vendor that refused to move our date. It all worked out for the best though, because I found a different baker that I like so much more! We had decided not to do save the dates for our first date, and I had always kind of wished we had done them. Now that we have rescheduled, it has give me a second opportunity to do them- and we even did fun pandemic themed ones!

You postponed a date from late next year? I honestly think Covid will be MUCH better by more than a year out.

But it’s good that your vendors were fine with moving the date!
