Postponement Venue Difficulties

Brooke, on July 18, 2020 at 8:10 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Hi everyone!
Our wedding was scheduled for October of this year and given the feedback we received from our concerned guests, we have unfortunately made the decision to postpone. We feel it’s safest and best at this point. The issue is that our venue is giving us a really hard time and is basically not letting us postpone yet because it’s too early...has anyone else run into this? Is it normal for it to be this difficult? I’m so worried that I won’t give guests enough notice or lose my vendors if I don’t do this soon...any suggestions?
Thank you!!

Will your venue let you at least pick a backup date even if they won't let you officially postpone yet? If not, maybe work with your other vendors to come up with a few dates that they're all available, so that when your venue does finally let you postpone, you would already have a head start on figuring out a new date. I've heard of a few venues only allowing postponing within a certain number of weeks before the wedding. How far in advance is your venue willing to let you postpone?

They need to be flexible. Review your contract first to see what you’ve already agreed to as far as terms.

That’s frustrating. Recheck your contract, see what it says in regards to Cancellations / Rescheduling and if there is a clause of an “An Of God”

Our’s had the Act of God clause and a cancellation policy but no clear reschedule policy....so we talked with our coordinator and they’re being very flexible and helping us reschedule.

I wish you the best of luck!

Yes. I had a hard time with a few of them, but we worked it out. My venue originally said that a postponement is considered as a cancellation and that we will lose all our deposit. I had to talk to the coordinator on the phone explaining my situation, and I demanded to talk to upper management. We worked things out, but I also had problems with photographer, videographer, Day of Coordinator for postponement fee. I was able to work out with some of these vendors. Pull out your contract, look for natural disaster, Act of God section, and have a conversation with them.
