Postponed wedding, what do i do with my wedding dress?

Michelle, on July 6, 2020 at 9:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I have my wedding dress in my possession, but now I’m not getting married until next year. Will the dress be ok? Should I do something with it? Will it be ok in my closet in the dress bag?

I would think it would be ok in the bag but I would also call like a dress shop or something to make sure or they can tell you how to actually preserve it. Good luck.

I would think it would be OK if it were stored in a closet in the bag. I agree with the previous comment - double check with a seamstress. They might also be willing to store your dress for you for a small fee.

I had my dress for over a year in the garment bag in a dark closet and it was completely fine.

It should be fine. I was supposed to get married in Sept. but it got pushed to May. I'm just going to have it steamed and then store it away in a bag in my closet.

Keep it in the bag in a dark closet. Mine was in there for like 18 months and it was fine!

As long as your dress is in a breathable garment bag (it should have come with one if you got it at a bridal shop) and is stored in a closet that isn't too damp or hot (like think an average, not moldy closet) it will be fine. I called a dress preservation company about caring for my dress that I wore for a couple hours for our elopement and plan to re-wear next year and she said it would be fine for that long even without a cleaning, so your unworn dress will be absolutely fine!

I would make sure it’s in a cool dark place in a breathable bag.

Make sure to also check and see if your dress has dress straps you can use in addition to the decorative ones! You can also call your bridal salon and see if they have any specific recommendations for you based on your dress style or designer. (For example, dresses with beaded bodices should be laid down flat!)
