Postponed reception but still having ceremony, am i missing anything?

Future Mrs. T, on July 4, 2020 at 12:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

HI everyone! So my FH and I have decided to postpone out 10/10 wedding to February 2021. We still want to be legally married on 10/10 so we will just be postponing our reception. Our intention was to have only immediate family at the ceremony any way so that does not create an issue for us.

Wedding planning is stressful during any time but especially now. Essentially we will have to plan two separate days of events and I don't want to forget anything. We decided to have our official wedding photos taken in October since it will still be warm outside. I was thinking of also having a photographer in February for the reception but not sure yet. Please let me know if you think I'm forgetting anything! I'm going in with the mindset that everything that would be needed for a typical ceremony would be ready on the ceremony day (bouquets, wedding rings etc.) and items for the reception to be ready for the day in February (centerpieces, place cards etc.)

Ceremony day:

Ceremony space (outdoor preferred but indoor backup plan in case of rain), officiant, lunch/ dinner at a restaurant afterward to celebrate, photographer for official photos, small cake or cupcakes, makeup artist

Reception day:

Photographer (still debating), DJ, wedding cake, I'd do my own makeup on this day,

Anything else I should consider? Thank you!

Are you having the ceremony filmed so that extended family and friends can see the ceremony? Otherwise, would you be having a vow renewal in February? I know my friend got married at the end of June and he only had his and his wife's immediate family and their bridal party in attendance. They didn't film the wedding, but they are having a vow renewal and reception in October for everyone to attend. I would have been disappointed if they weren't doing the vow renewal since he is a really good friend of mine and I would like to get to see them get married. I would also have a photographer for your reception that way they can capture the special moments like your first dance, parent dances, and cake cutting.

I would still get a photographer for the reception just for a few hours.
They can capture your first dance, cake cutting, parent dances, and fun dance floor pics. If you’re having these things of coarse.

We wanted to have a private ceremony regardless of the current situation. Thanks for pointing out the first dances and cake cutting I definitely want pictures of those!

I would recommend having a photographer for at least part of the reception. It's probably the only time you'll have almost everyone you care about together, so it would be nice to have good pictures from that.
You didn't mention any flowers. Are you planning on having any at either event?

    Yeah you’re right!

I bought fake flowers and I’m making my bouquet and boutonnieres as well as bridesmaids bouquets. I also bought a set of flowers from the same company for centerpieces and our head table for the reception. I may just need to get some filler leaves and some accent branches and such. Thank you!
