postage for invitations?

JJ, on August 20, 2009 at 12:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Just wondering...how much did you pay for postage to mail out your invitations? Especially for pocket invitations? I got a few differing quotes from the post office. So I just sent out a few test ones. Thanks!

I have the pocket ones from the Brides line sold at Michaels. The RSVP I spent $0.61 and for the whole invitation I spent $0.88 per envelope.

Ours were 81 cents for the pocket ones with three inserts. (They had magnet closures, which made them a bit thicker, and they wouldn't go through the little slot the Post Office uses for testing.) The ones that were just invitation cards with two mats were 44 cents.

You can go to your post office and have them weigh your invitations and they will tell you how much it will cost to send them. Thats what I did I had no clue untill my friend told me her friend sent out her invitations will .44 stamps and they all came back.

I had invites and rsvp cards from "cards and pockets". The RSVP cards were a standard stamp while the invite (pocket folder, red backing, invite and two inserts) were $.61. Just take one in thats ready to mail and have them weigh it.

Anything over 1 oz will require additional postage... Def. have the invite (fully loaded) weighed by the Post Office or on an official postage machine (most grocery store's have customer service that can do this)... response cards should be a standard stamp (.44), unless they are postcard responses and then they may be less...

The RSVP envelops should only require the standard $0.44 stamp. When I sent my invitations I put a $0.61 stamp on each, which was fine. If you are unsure I say go to the post office and have them weigh your entire invitation to tell you how much it will cost to send.

Please don't forget that the size also matters. My RSVP was "too small" so they had to charge me extra. Its just wise to double check everything!!! The whole thing put together, the individual RSVP card, and anything else you might have.

I spent $1.05 for my pocket invitations. My planner thought it would be $.61 but that was just for the weight, my invitation was not a letter size so it ended up costing 1.05 (expensive if you ask me). Sending out test invites are a good idea. But your post office should tell you the correct postage amount.

I spent $.64 cent for the postage because my invites had bows on them so they had to be handed stamped, then another $.44cent fpr the response cards

I looked at doing custom postage, but it was like an extra 200 bucks for a regular siazed invite, so I just said forget it.

Www.usps.com - there is a size chart and ounce chart you can look up. Bulk postage has to be over 200 pieces to the same zip (first three digits of zip at least). PLUS it's about $200 for the bulk postage permit a year unless you're a non-profit or u can use someone else's permit. you can find private postage service companys that will charge you for their permit use.

The rate has to do with ounces, size, AND if it's "machineable" which if it's too rigid and won't bend, it won't go through the machine. Best to go to the post office with the completed invite.

I do a lot of mail at work - can you tell?

Thanks so much, everyone! I sent a few with the 61 cent wedding cake stamp and the forever stamp for the rsvp envelope. I think it'll work. Making sure that my invitations are as flat as possible. Smiley smile I think the weight is fine. It's the pocket folder, backing, one insert, and rsvp- all letter size. I'm not sure how bendable it is though.

Mine wasn't very bendable but it went through. The PO had me worried though Smiley smile I used the 44 cent ring stamps on the rsvp

My were not pocket invites, they were just the regular standard invites. I got lucky, mine were 44cents BUT after the huge headache I went through to print the darn things out I was STILL nervous they would get sent back...
