Post wedding bbq (year +)

Mandi, on October 25, 2020 at 10:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
Hi all,

We are looking at doing a I Do BBQ since our big wedding was cancelled. We had to cancel because we were at the literal start of the American corona. We had already received all our gifts. We are going to do a “I Do BBQ” in July to celebrate the wedding and thank everyone.
Where do we even start? I’m going to wear my dress because I want to wear it once. My husband really isn’t into the cutting cake, first dance, reception things; they had been cut out of our original wedding reception. Do we put on the invitation “this is our thank you for the gifts” or something? I don’t want people thinking we want more (we definitely do NOT need more) 😪
Help. Please, planning this wedding was too much for me already and now I’m re planning something 🙈

You could call it a "celebration of marriage"! Or, if you decide to do a ceremony, you could call it a vow renewal.

Or, you could also refer to it as your wedding reception, or even what you already called it ("I Do BBQ").

    What Lisa said.

Either do a vow renewal/celebration of marriage, or use the fun name you have!

Labeling it "thank you for the gifts" is... awkward. And some people might misinterpret it as a plea for more gifts.

Hi Mandi! I think calling it a celebration of marriage or an "I Do BBQ" is perfect!!

I wouldn't mention gifts at all to make things easy, and make sure that you don't have any wedding registries still up anywhere! I think your guests will understand that this is just the delayed celebration. Smiley heart

Thanks!! Good thought on taking them all down! It’s so awkward, we already didn’t want gifts and family freaked out. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t want them thinking we want more!

Thanks! I don’t think we’ll do a vow renewal but maybe we will play the video from our elopement? 😪

I think playing the video from your elopement is a great idea!

It's a vow renewal/celebration of marriage. Call it that on your invites. Do not mention anything about gifts. They should have received prompt individual thank you cards when gifts arrived.
You can wear your dress again. You can serve cake without the cutting ceremony. Reception activities are optional. Just have open dancing.

Did you write thank you cards for the presents you received?

To add - I don't ask to shame or scold, but because I'm confused at your idea of throwing the party as a thank you for the presents.
