Post Wedding BBQ Menu Help

S&J, on June 27, 2017 at 9:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 34

My family is hosting a post wedding BBQ. Many of my FH's relatives are traveling internationally. We figured that a BBQ would be a good way to connect before leaving for our honeymoon two days later. My mother asked me to put together a sample menu. For some reason, I'm drawing blanks. I would love to get some ideas from all of you! There will be some vegetarians in attendance so I want to make sure everyone has plenty to eat. Thanks!

I'm doing a bbq style menu for my reception. I don't have anything set in stone yet, but some of the options I've liked so far have been pulled pork, beef brisket, bbq grilled chicken, skewers (you can make vegetarian skewers and meat skewers), for sides you could always have a nice big salad, potatoes, pasta salads and chargrilled veggies.

We didn't plan on catering because it's a family BBQ. Much more intimate and cozy.

    You guys think we should?

@ALC: I wouldn't be asking if there was a menu. I'm not that poster.

@Kate: My mother and my aunt are hosting it. So they're cooking. Their idea, their event. About 30 ppl.

I would suggest catering just because it will make your life so much easier. Even if you go with a chain restaurants BBQ such as Kinders or Dickeys it will be so much easier for you and your family.

ETA I would suggest looking at their menus for suggestions on what to serve. Don't forget mashed potatoes, rolls and mac and cheese. Those are my favorite parts of BBQ!

@FutureFuji: no idea who those places are lol. I live in the Northeast.

@Kate: no you're right it is something to think about. I'll definitely run it past them. Thanks.

I did a BBQ welcome dinner. Originally we were going to cook, but I researched and it really wasn't any more to order trays of BBQ and have it delivered. I found a place that did Hawaii style and it was so much less stressful--no shopping, prep, keeping food properly refrigerated, etc. ordering trays vs per person is definitely more economical.

I agree that ordering the sides might save your mom some work. If she's set on cooking then go for it! 30 is usually what we have for Thanksgiving and my Mom cooks everything. I like Sammantha's menu. Definitely add Mac and cheese though! Sounds like a great time!

Knowing my mother and aunt--their plan is to prep the day before the wedding. I'm going to talk to her about it later today. In the meantime, I'm googling BBQ catering places in the area.

My wedding is Saturday night and Sunday instead of brunch we are catering a BBQ lunch for anyone that wants to come, plus their kids (who were not invited to the wedding). We are having pulled pork. pulled chicken, cedar plank salmon, rolls and corn bread, potato salad, mac and cheese, kale salad, fruit and chicken tenders for the kids.

I would hard pass on people cooking the day after the wedding. Especially if you are about to leave on your honeymoon. Too large of a chance of getting sick.

I'm in the northeast as well. PA.

If you're in the same general area and would like some opinions on bbq style catering let me know.

We're having a BBQ/pig roast the day after our wedding in NY and we're having it catered. My family has a catering company but I don't want anyone doing any work at all so we'll be hiring someone else to take care of everything.

@ALC: Well maybe I shouldn't eat anything then before I leave on my honeymoon.

I'm not concerned about the food poisoning. Our family does BBQs all the time. Again, much less people than will be at our wedding.

I'm more concerned about my mother not exhausting herself. So I'm going to take the catering idea to her.

I am going to side Chivy because BBQ is being cooked at the time and served right away it is not sitting in warmers at sub safe temperature. I would suggest marinated chicken breasts, a pulled meat like brisket or pork shoulder would be great and the typical sides. For a Veg option maybe veggie burgers and some Kabobs.

Chivy, I have largely stopped responding to you, but I have gotten sick a few times at family cookouts.

    Mmmmm

You're in NJ, right? Too bad - I don't have catering suggestions, but.....I can make a mean mac n cheese!!! lol

Also, I had my mother with me the day before the wedding and we did SO MUCH running around (aka I dragged her with me everywhere). Even though I thought I had everything well thought out, last minute emergencies came up out of nowhere. Just something to consider/think about.

@ALC: I have never gotten sick at a family cookout. And that's literally all we do in the summertime.
