Possibly torn acl (rant)

Mrsmtobe, on June 18, 2019 at 10:49 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 13
Me and my FH are pretty active and adventurous so last Friday we cooked an awesome parmesan shrimp risotto together, danced in the back yard and then decided if would be fun to go on a late night paddle board around the lake behind our house it was an awesome night and we ended up on the roof of an abandoned fire station on the lake fooling around and when we were leaving to go back home i went to get on my board and slipped off ... now I’m on crutches and with a brace , yesterday I went to the orthopedic surgeon to have it checked and they drained my knee because it was so swollen and gave me a cortisone shot unfortunately upon draining it there was a lot of blood which indicated it may be more then just Cartledge damage like he originally thought and now I need an MRI as he thinks I tore my ACL, my knee has somehow gotten even more swollen now even with the draining, cortisone ,and the prescription he gave me on top of having it up and on ice “like it’s my job” as he said. my wedding is still 7 months away but if I end up needing surgery I don’t know what I’ll do , not to mention we have 5 kids between us from 3-15 and I can’t walk or drive at the moment I feel so defeated And down . Sorry for the rant just so frustrated

I'm so sorry! I hope you are able to recover quickly. When will you know if you need surgery or not?

Thank you I’m trying to set up the MRI now hopefully for tomorrow so once the dr reviews it I’ll know we we are getting married in feb and then have I. March a work trip to Vegas and a cruise with his whole family and my parents both in March 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was told I would possibly be able to hold off on the surgery until after the wedding as to now be on crutches walking down the isle but that my knee “won’t be stable “ idk what I will do but I’m freaking out especially because I’ve had issues with my left knee (injured my right one this time ) since I was 16 and it’s a super traumatic thing for me

Oh wow. I wouldn't want to put off the surgery until after the wedding. My dad completely tore his quad tendon and it pulled off part of his knee cap (gross I know) in March and he was able to go on my graduation cruise in May if that makes you feel any better. He had surgery the day after his injury it was so bad.

I would ask the surgeon if he thinks physical therapy could help you? I’m a PT, and have seen many people with ACL tears! Some can get back to normal with time, but that obviously depends on the severity of your tear. Sometimes complete rest and not moving the knee is not cesessarily the best

Definitely as of now he just wants to see the MRI to really see what’s going on so I have a hinged brace and crutches just cuz I can’t put weight on it , I’m getting it tomorrow at 2 so here’s to hoping PT is all I need but I’m just really freaking out

Maybe bad timing so soon after, but I'd like to point out that romantic nights like that are never to be regretted. And some day when the pain and worry are a distant memory you will smile when you tell the story why your wedding pictures have crutches in them. Or if you're lucky, no crutches, just the memory of those sweet, early days. Speedy recovery!

Thank you ! Trust me I definitely don’t take our amazing nights for granted or regret them in an way even when things happen and we’ve had some crazy things happen , I’m truly very fortunate to have the relationship I do with FH somehow we always find the silver lining and we have gone through some really life changing things happen to us in our two years of being together I’m almost certain most would not make it and if they did probably would have not made it with as little friction between them

as cheesy as it sound I truly am marring my best friend and my partner in crime I couldn’t ask for a more supportive and amazing man he is everything I could ever dream of and then some

My bridesmaid tore her ACL in February and she was able to walk around without her brace, walk down the processional, and even dance a little at my wedding in early June! Of course everyone's injuries are different, but hopefully this will give you a little hope. Once the swelling went down (about 3 months later) it got to the point where she could walk no problem without pain, but if someone bumped into her or too much of a strain was put on her knee, that would cause her pain. She had her surgery last week, so now she is actually debilitated for 6 months while she recovers. But she deliberately delayed her surgery for my wedding lol... they told her the swelling was down enough for her to have it done in May, but she waited until June. Like I said, of course everyone's injuries are different, but since you have a few months before your wedding, it's possible you'll be able to walk by then and delay your surgery until after your wedding

This definitely gives me hope I can’t imagine not being able to walk or dance with FH and my dad at my own wedding

LET ME MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER!!!

My fiance tore his ACL in December! We are getting married in October.

He had surgery in January. 5 months later, he is jogging. This week he got cleared for twisting (so dancing fast, playing golf). He is a personal trainer, and cannot quite lift the kind of weight he is used to, but the important part to us right now- HE CAN DANCE AND WALK JUST FINE! Without a brace or crutches or anything.

Do your physical therapy like it's your job too, once you get to that point, and you will be fine! Just have faith and perseverance!

If you still have another 8 months before your wedding I’d say the outlook for that is pretty good, as long as you don’t have the surgery until after the wedding. Seriously you wouldn’t have even known my friend had a problem at our wedding... she was walking around and dancing like everyone else. She had a pulled meniscus and severe bruising as well, so she was in pretty bad shape to begin with. I hope you feel better!!

I tore my ACL about 10 years ago. I had surgery 8/14 and was in my friends wedding `on 10/10. Walking in heels on grass kinda sucked but i was ok to get around. If you have surgery soon(if needed) and do your physical therapy afterwards i think you'll be good to go by February!
