Portrait size

Nicole, on October 28, 2011 at 9:45 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

What size is normal? My photography pkg includes a 24x30 bridal portrait. This sounds enormous to me! If I take into account the mat and frame for the portrait, that suckers is gonna be the size of a poster.

For those who had one done- what size did you get?

That is big but that most likely includes the frame, I think 16x20 is a good "big" size can you change it?

Yes, i'm sure i could just tell him the size I want and he would print it for me. The 24x30 size is just for the print (frame not included).

So is 16x20 a more "normal" size for a portrait then?

I agree... 16x20 is a good size... 24x30 is a nice size too though... especially if you have a place to put it, for example over a mantel or on a bare wall... it gives you more of that WOW factor. What I would suggest, before telling your photog you don't want it that big, ask them if they have a sample size and maybe have them bring it to your home and show you where you could hang it... or if they have a studio where you can see it.

It depends a lot on where its going, in a small room, a small wall-it will seem big...on a big wall, it will seem very fitting

The average poster comes in 24x30. It really depends on how large you want the photo. But watch out, the large size photo will definitely make a statement!

16x20 is a lot smaller (it's almost a foot smaller!) but I think it'll fit a wall much better. It won't be as imposing as the larger size.

Thanks for the input you guys. I talked to the photog and asked him to print it in a 16x20. I would have gone larger if it was on canvas, but it's not.

FH does custom framing for a living so i'm having his employees mat and frame it on his day off Smiley smile

2 more weeks till the big day!!!!!
